<p>That’s why this was such a painful loss, as many of the team’s top contributors won’t get another shot at the ultimate glory. That’s also why coach <strong>Jon Scheyer</strong> got so emotional. </p>

<p>The young coach <strong>couldn’t stay in hiding for much longer</strong>, and he wanted to address the student community with his head up. Even so, he admitted that it’s been a tough time for him:</p>

<p>Even so, there’s nothing to hold against the projected first<strong> overall pick in the 2025 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA </a>Draft.</strong> He was the best player in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball </a>this season, and bigger things await now.</p>



<p>The <strong>Flagg frenzy</strong> has been so out of control lately that even his mother, <strong>Kelly Flagg</strong>, has profited from it. She just took to Instagram to announce her partnership with Dr. Scholl’s.</p>

<p>Of course, besides being a mother, Kelly Flagg<strong> was an athlete herself. </strong>She played at the University of Maine, and she was even a part of the team that won its first ever NCAA Tournament game back in 1999.</p>

<p>Now, it seems like there’s a new sheriff in town. As reported by Adam Finkelstein of 247Sports, the top source of player rankings, Dybantsa<strong> is no longer the best recruit in his class. </strong></p>

<p><strong>Geno Auriemma’s team</strong> completely dominated the South Carolina Gamecocks for the second time this season, and they prevented them from winning back-to-back championships.</p>



<p>Despite being stacked with talent and the best players in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a>, some fans jokingly claimed that <strong>they only won because of ‘the power of friendship.’</strong> Bueckers, however, agreed. </p>

<p>Even so, make no mistake, this team could play. They went undefeated in 18 conference contests, went <strong>37-3 for the season</strong>, and closed out the season with a 16-game winning streak.</p>

The 82–59 rout secured UConn’s 12th national title and earned head coach <strong>Geno Auriemma</strong> a $300,000 bonus. Meanwhile, the loss proved even more deflating for South Carolina’s <strong>Dawn Staley</strong>, who missed out on an even larger payout.</p>



<p>The Huskies finally got their revenge on the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/south-carolina">Gamecocks</a>, who defeated them in the 2021 March Madness Final and left Auriemma’s squad with a bitter taste. Three years later, UConn washed it all away—<strong>this time with the sweet sting of championship champagne.</strong></p>



<p>Guided by a sensational performance from Sarah Strong, Paige Bueckers, and Azzi Fudd, the Huskies routed the Gamecocks in a game that was decided before the end of the third quarter. The loss stung even more for Staley, <strong>who hoped to secure her fourth national championship </strong>at the helm of South Carolina women’s <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball">college basketball</a> program. </p>



<p>Moreover, while Auriemma earned a $300,000 bonus, <em>Staley missed out in a ludicrous championship bonus in her contract</em>. <p>Although Staley will probably hang her head about the astronomical bonus she missed out on, <strong>the 17-year coach in Columbia still secured a big bonus check</strong> after reaching the decisive stage in March Madness.</p>

In a movie-worthy finish, <strong>Todd Golden</strong>‘s team claimed the <strong>National Championship</strong>, capping off a historic season for the program.</p>


        


<p>After the game in which the Gators triumphed over Kelvin Sampson’s <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/houston-cougars">Cougars</a> 65-63, Head Coach Todd Golden spoke with the media and shared his thoughts on achieving a new milestone in the history of the university.</p>



<p><em>“It was the same story,” </em>Golden said to <em>Andy Katz</em> after the game. <em>“We knew this was going to be an incredibly difficult game. Houston’s a great program, obviously, Hall of Fame head coach, super tough team. And you know, we knew it was going to be a really challenging game. They did a great job on Walt [Walter Clayton Jr.] in the first half, we had some uncharacteristic turnovers. </em></p>



<p><em>“And you know, at halftime, that was the biggest difference. We had nine turnovers. They had two. Other than that. The game was pretty similar, and we just toughened up in the second half, our defense stepped up. I think we had nine stops in a row at one point. We got Walt loose a little bit in transition. He got going, obviously the big three at the under-four. And as always, we found a way to win the game.”</em></p>

<p>It wasn’t going to be an easy game, and it certainly wasn’t in the slightest. That’s why Todd Golden praised the effort put forth by his players, stating that he felt an immense sense of pride once the game had concluded.</p>

<p><em><strong>“Incredibly proud,”</strong></em> Golden said once the game concluded.<em> “You know, we knew that Houston was not gonna make it easy on us, and that’s what we needed tonight, to find a way to win. We had to find a way to get some stops and make the game really difficult for them, and we guarded our tail off in the second half. </em></p>



<p><em>And that last possession, Walt had a great closeout for [Emanuel] Sharp to put the ball on the floor. He realized he couldn’t pick it up, and Condo [Alex Condon] dove on the loose ball, and next thing I knew, the horn went off, and then we had won the game.”</em></p>

<p>While the defeat was disappointing, Sampson still cashed in big. The Houston coach earned multiple bonuses during <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/march-madness">March Madness</a>,<strong> including a $300,000 payout for reaching the Final Four after an electrifying win over Tennessee</strong>. In total, <strong>Sampson secured $500,000 in bonuses </strong>throughout the tournament.</p>



<p>Golden, on the other hand, didn’t earn as many bonuses as Sampson—likely because of his already high base salary—<strong>but he still received a $50,000 bonus for winning the national title.</strong> That pushed his total March Madness<strong> bonus earnings to $175,000.</strong> With a nearly $4 million annual salary, the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/florida-gators">Gators</a> coach isn’t exactly hurting for extra incentives.</p>

<h2>How much do Todd Golden and Kelvin Sampson make?</h2>



<p>Golden is set to earn <strong>$3.77 million by the end of the 2024–25 season</strong>, including his March Madness bonuses. According to USA Today, he ranks No. 34 among the highest-paid NCAA Division I coaches. </p>

<p>Sampson earns significantly more than Golden, <strong>with a reported annual salary of approximately $4.7 million</strong>. That figure jumped from about $3.4 million two years ago when the Houston coach received a sizable pay raise.</p>

<p>With the<strong> Duke Blue Devils </strong>eliminated from championship contention, it seems like we’ve already seen the last of <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cooper-flagg" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cooper Flagg</a> in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball.</a> He claimed that he would love to return, but that’s not likely to happen.</p>



<p>Flagg is touted as the next big thing in basketball. He’s projected to be the first overall pick in the<strong> 2025 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA</a> Draft,</strong> and he’s not going to forgo that opportunity to stay in college another season.</p>



<p>However, Bobby Burack of Outkick is worried about his future in the league. In his latest column, he argued that he could face <strong>the same racial backlash Caitlin Clark faced in the WNBA.</strong></p>

<p>“L<em>ike Clark, Flagg projects to be a transcendent star at the next level. Comparisons to Jokic, Doncic, or Nowitzki fall apart when you consider the latter three were not born in America. <strong>American sports fans are drawn to American-born athletes. They always have been. Jokic has been the best player in the NBA for at least five seasons and isn’t even among the five biggest attractions in the leagu</strong>e,” </em>wrote Burack.</p>

<p>This makes sense to a degree, but it’s not like Flagg would be the first white superstar in the league. He wouldn’t even be the <strong>first white and American perennial All-Star.</strong></p>

<p>At the end of the day, it’s all about <strong>being professional</strong>. Coach Hurley’s attitude has left a lot to be desired, and he’s drawn plenty of criticism for it multiple times in the past.</p>

<p>The Florida guard will continue to turn heads in the weeks leading to the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA </a>Draft. <strong>Despite being 22 years old,</strong> he’s now projected to be taken in the first round.</p>



<p>With that in mind, sports analyst Joe Cox dug deep in his tape to figure out his best potential NBA destination. Given his shooting prowess as a 38.8% three-point shooter, he thinks he’d be a perfect fit for the <strong>Orlando Magic</strong>. </p>

<p>“<strong><em>The hottest rumored destination for Clayton is the Orlando Magic. It certainly makes sense,”</em></strong> wrote Cox. <em>“He’s the local star, and Orlando is dead last in the NBA in 3-point shooting (31.4%). The Magic could certainly benefit from drafting Clayton on several levels. They’re currently projected to draft at No. 23, which is within the realm of many recent draft projections for the Florida guard.</em>“</p>

<p>Paige Bueckers just broke Moore’s record to become the program’s<strong> all-time leader in points per game (19.83)</strong>. However, records are meant to be broken, and Moore has always been supportive of the new generation.</p>

I played with a guy my sophomore year, Luol Deng, who was our best player on a Final Four team and I think Cooper’s season has surpassed Luol’s and Luol made two All-Star games and had a terrific NBA career. I think the biggest thing that stands out is, he’s talented, but he plays so hard. He’s a rare breed. I’d put all my chips on him.”</em></p>

<p>Of course, Deng was never a superstar, but he was always a very serviceable player. So, if that’s Flagg’s ceiling, as underwhelming as it might sound,<strong> it’s still pretty decent.</strong></p>
