This week we’ve learned about the winners of the first three MLB awards of the 2020 season. The league only had a 60-game regular-season calendar but we were able to see some good performances from players that earned big prizes in recent days.
Now it was the turn of the Cy Young award, a prize given to the best pitchers in the National and American league. This year, Shane Bieber won it in the American League with the Cleveland Indians, becoming a unanimous winner of the coveted award.
Moreover, the National League saw Trevor Bauer of the Cincinnati Reds getting selected as the winner of this year, closing a great year for him. Bauer was just great this season and even though his team couldn’t compete for more important things, he made sure to leave his mark this season.

Something curious about this pair is that before going different ways, Bauer and Bieber were actually teammates on the Cleveland Indians. This is the third time that both Cy Young award winners in a given season were previously teammates.
Bauer and Bieber joined Rick Porcello and Max Scherzer (2016), who were teammates on the Detroit Tigers and Dennis Eckersley and Greg Maddux (1992), who played together on the Chicago Cubs.
It was a terrific season for these players and the stories around their awards make them even more interesting. Bauer and Bieber will hope to compete for collective trophies in the upcoming season rather than this one, but the happiness to know that you’re the best pitches in the Majors will always make you happy.
