Aaron Boone knows he has to do something with Anthony Volpe, who has not been playing well in recent weeks and has a number of errors that have affected the New York Yankees in some games.
When asked if Volpe would continue in the Yankees’ lineup for tomorrow, Boone simply responded, “we’ll see” during the pre-Game 4 press conference against the Red Sox. The shortstop’s errors have obviously drawn a great deal of attention from critics.
What matters to Boone, at least at the time of the press conference, is trying to win that last game against the Red Sox to avoid being swept at home and to keep Boston’s dominant record against the Yankees from worsening this season.
What Happens If Volpe Is Removed from the Lineup?
While no official decision has been made, two things could happen: he could be sent to the minors to readjust and fix his problem with errors, or he could be given more days off to see if some rest helps him return in better form.
The Yankees have Jose Caballero to cover the position if Volpe cannot return for a while. For the consolation of fans worried about the errors, Volpe is not the only one who has committed a high number of errors this year; Jazz Chisholm Jr. also has 14 so far.
When Might Boone Announce a Decision on Volpe?
It is likely he will do so after Game 4 against the Red Sox. It is also possible that an announcement will be made through the Yankees’ official media channels, as they often do when they DFA a player and post on X about it.
