Bryce Harper continues to work his way back into peak form, and despite some rough stretches this season, when he unleashes his full power the Philadelphia Phillies reap the rewards—as they did in a wild game against the Mariners.
It’s not the first time Harper has launched massive home runs, but it marked the first time this season that a player has hit two moonshots over 440 feet in the same game. Those blasts earned him entry into an exclusive group alongside Willson Contreras and others who have accomplished the feat.
“This is the second time Bryce Harper has had multiple 440+ ft home runs in a game under Statcast (2015), joining 5/6/15,” reported Sarah Langs on X. “He’s the 5th player with two such games in that span, joining Yordan Alvarez, Willson Contreras, Joey Gallo, and Jorge Soler.”
A Good Game for Harper
It had been a while since Bryce Harper hit two home runs in the same game. The last time was exactly a month ago on July 18, in a 6-5 Phillies loss to the Mariners, where he was lethal at the plate.
August has been a relatively good month for Harper, who is batting for a .246 average with 13 RBI, 7 hits, and 6 home runs. In his last four games, he has contributed a total of three home runs, and his recent two-homer performance helped him snap a two-game RBI drought.
Willson Contreras is obviously not having as good a season as Harper, as he has contributed only two home runs for the Cardinals this month. This year, he has yet to have a game with two home runs.
