Pete Alonso battled alongside his New York Mets teammates in a game against the Miami Marlins, which they ultimately won 10-4. Alonso seized the opportunity to hit his first home run of the season, a massive 400-foot long ball to right field—the first of the year for him.
After the game, the relief was clear on Alonso’s face, and he expressed as much to SNY, sharing how good it felt to get a home run early in the season: “It’s a long time without hitting one. To finally do it in a big league game, it feels pretty cool. I can do it still.“
Prior to the game against the Marlins, Alonso had recorded just one hit during MLB Opening Day against the Astros, who showcased strong defense, preventing the Mets from getting hits. Alonso was among Houston’s victims.
Last season, Alonso was in top form, setting a personal best with 162 games played—a milestone he achieved for the second time in his seven-year career, surpassing the 160+ games mark. He posted a .240 batting average, contributed 88 RBIs, 146 hits, and scored 91 runs, marking his third consecutive year with 90 or more runs for the Mets.

Alonso is set for a strong 2025 campaign with the Mets. According to Baseball Reference, he’s projected to have at least 613 plate appearances, delivering 81 runs, 129 hits, 34 home runs, 94 RBIs, and a .241 batting average with a .328 OPS. Last season, he nearly reached 700 plate appearances and hasn’t dipped below 600 since 2021.

If Alonso stays healthy throughout 2025, the Mets could significantly benefit from his performance, especially when paired with Juan Soto. Soto’s batting power is undeniable, and in the first three games of the season, he posted an impressive 1.316 OPS—far surpassing his teammates’ combined .476 OPS.
