After the game, the relief was clear on Alonso’s face, and he expressed as much to SNY, sharing how good it felt to get a home run early in the season: “It’s a long time without hitting one. To finally do it in a big league game, it feels pretty cool. I can do it still.

Prior to the game against the Marlins, Alonso had recorded just one hit during MLB Opening Day against the Astros, who showcased strong defense, preventing the Mets from getting hits. Alonso was among Houston’s victims.

If Alonso stays healthy throughout 2025, the Mets could significantly benefit from his performance, especially when paired with Juan Soto. Soto’s batting power is undeniable, and in the first three games of the season, he posted an impressive 1.316 OPS—far surpassing his teammates’ combined .476 OPS.
