Ceddanne Rafaela is likely still feeling the pain from his incredible catch at Fenway Park. On the first pitch, a Toronto Blue Jays‘ SS Bichette launched a deep drive to the outfield, forcing Rafaela to sprint and throw himself against the wall, risking his body to prevent a play that could have hurt the Boston Red Sox.

Rafaela is in his third season with the Red Sox and is already proving how valuable he is to the team. Last season, he appeared in 152 games, and in 2025, he has played 10 games, including this one against the Blue Jays. Up to that point, he had been performing well in the outfield.

The Red Sox started the season strong with a win, but then went on a four-game losing streak, including losses in the series against the Rangers and the first game of the series against the Orioles.

So far, Rafaela’s best game in the early 2025 MLB season was on April 6 against the St. Louis Cardinals, where he contributed 3 runs, 3 hits, 2 RBIs, and was walked once, resulting in a .200 batting average and a .273 OPS. Before the game against the Blue Jays, he had yet to hit a home run.

Rafaela’s 2025 Projection

Baseball Reference projects Rafaela as a player who could provide significant contributions to the Red Sox in 2025, with at least 494 plate appearances—putting him within the range of his 2024 total of 574. Additionally, the projection indicates he could record over 61 runs, 116 hits, 14 home runs, and a .251 batting average.
