For the second time in less than a month, Rob Thomson watched the Philadelphia Phillies get swept—this time by the Pittsburgh Pirates—and the manager finally gave a subtle signal that a change could be coming to the lineup.
Following the loss in the series finale, Thomson said he’s been considering some different possibilities: “So we’ll see what happens.” Fans may have to wait a few days for any official moves.
“Phillies manager Rob Thomson says he is looking at the possibility of changing some things up in the lineup. Bryson Stott, who has been leading off a lot, is down to .239. Max Kepler is batting .208 and Brandon Marsh is batting just .216. Catcher Rafael Marchán is under .200,” NBC’s John Clark reported on X.
What lineup changes could be on the table?
Beyond the struggling Stott and Kepler, other players are also in tough stretches. Even Bryce Harper, before landing on the injured list, was cooling off—his average dropped from .276 on May 20 to .258 by June 5 after a rough series against the Blue Jays.
One potential move could involve replacing Marsh with Johan Rojas, who’s hitting .245 but has seen limited action since Marsh returned to center field. Another option could be infielder Edmundo Sosa, who’s batting .275 and might provide a spark in the lineup.

Phillies spiraling in rough stretch
Thomson knows something has to change quickly. The Phillies have won just once in their last 10 games—a brutal stretch that includes three lost series and two ugly sweeps, one at home and one on the road.
