Amid multiple movements, constant updates, and so much information that can be overwhelming sometimes, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported one of the biggest news in the 2021 NBA free agency: Carmelo Anthony joining the Los Angeles Lakers.

The veteran forward will face one of his biggest challenges ever in a team that will try to pursue the ring after coming up short last season. Melo will play for the first time alongside old friend LeBron James in a roster full of experienced players.

After spending nearly one year off the court following rough stints at Oklahoma and Houston, Carmelo has bounced back seizing a bench role with the Portland Trail Blazers over the last two seasons.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the player's manager, Bay Frazier, told him Carmelo Anthony and the Los Angeles Lakers reached an agreement for a one-year deal. Melo has proven to be a useful tool coming off the bench at Portland, and his three-point shooting accuracy could help the Lakers in their quest for an 18th NBA title.

Last season, the forward mostly appeared for the Trail Blazers as a rotation player and came up clutch from the three-point line several times, averaging a career-high 40.9% from there in 2020/21. He is one of the many veterans that will reportedly join the Lakers for next season.

The Lakers have brought in several big-name players, but their ages have been seen as an issue for a number of NBA fans. Dwight Howard, Trevor Ariza, Wayne Ellington, Kent Bazemore, and Melo are all talented players but probably going through the final stages of their careers.

Caremelo Anthony is 37 years old so his one-year contract with Los Angeles makes sense. Depending on how valuable he proves to be for the team this season he might receive an extension, but there's still a long way to go before that.
