There’s a new quarterback in the NFC South. With the 1st-overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers selected Bryce Young. Now, the club has announced the jersey number that the former Alabama player will wear as pro.
The Panthers surprised nobody with their first-overall pick. They traded up in order to land a quarterback, and Bryce Young was definitely the best player of this year’s class.
It is true that his size concerns scouts, but the Panthers know there have been successful quarterbacks with a body type similar to Bryce’s. They think he was the missing piece in order to compete again for the Super Bowl.
Panthers announce the jersey number that Bryce Young will wear
Everyone knew the Panthers were going to select Bryce Young with the 1st-overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft. He’s a very talented quarterback who proved himself during his time at Alabama, but now he has to do it as a pro.
Young’s pre-draft cognitive test was the best of all the quarterbacks of this year’s class. Carolina has huge expectations from him, thinking that he’s the player who will lead them to success.
For this reason, the Panthers want to make Young feel very comfortable. One of the most important matters for a player is his jersey number, and Carolina knows it.
The team has announced that Bryce Young will wear No. 9 on his jersey, the same he wore at Alabama Crimson Tide. This number previously belonged to Matt Corral, but he asked the club to change to No. 2 once they traded D.J. Moore to the Chicago Bears.
