Andy Reid believes the addition of Kenneth Walker III gives the Kansas City Chiefs a new explosive dimension after his Super Bowl run with the Seattle Seahawks.

During the 2026 NFL owners meeting, the head coach highlighted the running back’s big-play ability as a major reason behind the splash move in free agency, suggesting the Chiefs intends to feature him early in the offense. “He adds another element to the offense. He can take it the distance every time he touches the ball.”

Reid also emphasized Walker’s versatility within multiple offensive looks. The Chiefs believe his skill set fits both spread formations and heavier packages, which should allow the coaching staff to keep defenses guessing throughout the 2026 season. If Patrick Mahomes returns, this duo could be formidable.

Could Chiefs still draft Jeremiyah Love at No. 9?

Chiefs coach Andy Reid noted that Kenneth Walker III worked extensively out of shotgun two years ago and primarily under center last season, producing strong numbers in both setups. That flexibility gives Kansas City confidence they have a running back who can be effective regardless of formation, something that fits well with the team’s evolving offensive philosophy with new OC Eric Bieniemy.

Even after adding Walker, rumors continue to connect the Chiefs with Jeremiyah Love in the 2026 Draft. If the dynamic prospect is still available at No. 9, Kansas City could consider the move despite having other roster priorities. Love is widely viewed as a potential generational talent who could also make an immediate impact in the passing game.

However, several teams picking earlier in the draft are monitoring Love closely. The Giants, Titans and Commanders are among those linked to the running back, which could make it difficult for him to fall to Kansas City. If he somehow reaches the ninth pick, the Chiefs would face a fascinating decision that could reshape their offensive identity.
