The Green Bay Packers could be facing one of their most challenging NFL seasons in years. Starting quarterback Aaron Rodgersis reportedly on the verge of an exit amid conflict with the front office, possibly leaving the team without a key weapon. Meanwhile, former Jacksonville Jaguars and LA Rams quarterback, Blake Bortles, is set to join the franchise, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero.
His addition comes at a time when the organization seems to be confronted with their main figure and facing the risk of running short of quarterbacks if Rodgers decides to leave. The No. 12 has been crucial for the Packers’ success in all these years, in which he sort ofcarried the teamall by himself.
While there’s speculation regarding the quarterback situation at Green Bay, Bortles’ signing provides the team some necessary depth before the organized team activities begin in the next weeks. With him and Jordan Love, are the Packers getting ready for a potentialRodgers departure?
Bortles agrees to a one-year deal while Rodgers’ future remains uncertain
With only two quarterbacks in their roster, and one of them rumored to be leaving sooner rather than later, Green Bay were facinga tricky scenario with the possibility ofbeing left with only onequarterback if Rodgers finally decidesto leave.
However, Bortles’ arrival wouldn’t be necessarily relatedto the three-time NFL MVP’s probable exit, but with giving further back-up to the signal-caller role instead. The other QB in the offseason roster, Jordan Love, has no experience in the league so far, as he was inactive through the 2020 season, but the29-year-oldhas seven seasons under his belt.

Still, the last time Bortles took part in an NFL game was in 2019 with the Los Angeles Rams, and he hasn’t played as a starter in his last campaign with the Jaguars in 2018. The veteran quarterback’s signing is understood to be related to his good relationship with Offensive Coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, who worked with Bortles for four years in Jacksonville.
It’s unlikely that the Packers’ new signing is seen as a potential replacementfor Rodgers, but it does respond to their need of having more depth at the quarterback position, as the 37-year-old might not be evenshowing up atthe upcoming voluntary works until his situation is resolved.
