The Detroit Lions delivered one of the most electrifying seasons in recent NFL history, but a tough home loss to the Commanders ultimately kept them from going even further. Now, quarterback Jared Goff knows the team will need to double down on their efforts. He understands that a major key to success will be deploying a variety of offensive strategies.

Both Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery rank among the most explosive running backs in the NFC, giving head coach Dan Campbell a truly dangerous offensive weapon for opposing defenses to worry about. Could the Lions deploy both backs simultaneously in many snaps as possible? That’s a possibility that could keep defensive coordinators up at night.

During a recent media session amid the most intense phase of preseason preparations, Goff shared his thoughts on having both RB’s on the field at the same time—and the excitement it brings as the new season approaches.

“We’re working on how many different ways we can use them,” the QB said via nbcsports.com. “As often as we can get both those guys on the field is a good thing for us. Finding creative ways to do that is the hard part, and that’s the challenge upstairs for those guys, but they’re doing a good job of figuring it out.

You don’t ever want to take either of them off the field, so we’re trying to find ways to throw it to one of them and have one of them block, and then throw it to the other guy have the other guy block, hand it to one of them. It’s a lot of fun and those two guys are good.”

Sonic and Knuckles

As a new NFL season approaches, anticipation is soaring for the Detroit Lions’ dynamic backfield duo. Known affectionately as Sonic and Knuckles, Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery are poised to lead one of the league’s most potent rushing attacks. Last season, the pair was a nightmare for defenses, combining for a staggering 2,187 rushing yards, 858 receiving yards, and 32 touchdowns.

With Gibbs’ explosive speed and elusiveness complementing Montgomery’s bruising, powerful running style, the Lions’ offense is expected to be a force to be reckoned with. Their ability to wear down opponents and produce game-changing plays makes them a true dual threat.

The question isn’t whether they’ll be productive, but rather if they can top their record-setting performance and run the Lions all the way to a championship.

What lies ahead for the Lions

With two preseason games left to play—both at home against Miami and Houston—the Detroit Lions face a tough start to the regular season. At a minimum, they’ll need to validate the progress they made last campaign.
