Aaron Rodgers is the big story during NFL free agency as everyone awaits his final decision between the Minnesota Vikings, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and New York Giants.
After the Jets confirmed that Rodgers will be released, several reports indicated that his preferred destination was the Rams if Sean McVay and Los Angeles considered trading Matthew Stafford. That didn’t happen.
From that moment on, everything has been a wave of confusion and uncertainty surrounding the former Super Bowl champion with the Packers. One group of insiders claims he is actually close to Minnesota, while others firmly insist that the Vikings are not an option.
What will be Aaron Rodgers’ next team?
According to the latest report from Dianna Russini and Mike Silver, Aaron Rodgers supposedly wants his next team to be the Minnesota Vikings to lead an offense featuring Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and Aaron Jones.
“Rodgers is hoping to sign with the Vikings, who went 14-3 in 2024 before suffering a first-round playoff defeat to the Los Angeles Rams. Meanwhile, the Vikings have been strongly weighing the possibility of pursuing Rodgers as a replacement for 2024 starter Sam Darnold, who signed a three-year, $100 million free-agent deal Wednesday with the Seattle Seahawks.”

Is Aaron Rodgers a free agent?
Yes. Aaron Rodgers is a free agent since Aaron Glenn and the Jets have confirmed that the quarterback will be released. This would allow him to choose his new team without restrictions, including the Vikings as one of the options.
However, insiders like Adam Schefter, Tom Pelissero and Jordan Fowler have been very clear in stating that the Minnesota Vikings’ interest in Rodgers is very low.

Schefter said: “I’m not including Minnesota in the Aaron Rodgers conversation until I have a reason to have some form of evidence that that’s something we need to take realistically.”
Pelissero has mentioned that the Vikings’ priority is to develop J.J. McCarthy as their starter, while Fowler also echoed this sentiment. “I talked to a source who said that it’s possible, but probably unlikely at the end of the day because the Vikings are dedicated to J.J. McCarthy’s development, first and foremost.”

Today, Jeremy Fowler gave his latest report on the matter, and the formula seems to be the same as Schefter and Pelissero. McCarthy is the starter, and Rodgers is an unlikely option.
“I’m told from sources that Rodgers does have standing offers from the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants. Teams are waiting this out, waiting on Rodgers. The feeling is there’s not just a money consideration here. There’s fit, there’s surroundings, all those things. Minnesota Vikings are sort of on the periphery here. Sources there tell me that it’s possible they get involved with Rodgers, but the feeling this week has been probably not. They want to develop J.J. McCarthy.”
