NFL News: Andy Reid and Chiefs are reportedly expecting a big suspension for Rashee Rice

The Chiefs are bracing for a major setback as star receiver Rashee Rice faces a looming multi-game ban. Head coach Andy Reid and the team are already making plans to fill the gap, knowing the suspension could sideline one of Patrick Mahomes' key weapons at the start of the season.

Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs are preparing for the imminent suspension that the NFL will impose on Rashee Rice. According to a report by Albert Breer, the star wide receiver would miss at least four games at the start of the 2025 season.

ā€œThe Chiefs are expecting a suspension of Rice in the neighborhood of four to six games, and are ready for it, with veteran JuJu Smith-Schuster and rookie Jalen Royals (who, like Rice, is a bigger inside receiver) prepared to man the slot if need be.ā€

Rice’s absence could be a heavy blow for Patrick Mahomes in his quest to win the fourth Super Bowl of his career. It’s important to remember that in 2024, Rashee suffered a severe knee injury in Week 4 and couldn’t return. That was a key factor in the Chiefs not having the explosive offense they had in previous years.

What did Rashee Rice do get suspended?

Rashee Rice was involved in a high-speed car accident in Dallas in March 2024, where he was driving at nearly 120 mph before losing control and causing a multi-car crash. Several people were injured in the collision, and Rice initially fled the scene but later turned himself in and accepted responsibility for his actions.

In July 2025, a Dallas County judge sentenced Rice after he pleaded guilty to charges related to the crash, including collision causing serious injury and racing on a highway.

He received five years of probation, 30 days of jail time served intermittently, and was ordered to pay restitution to the victims. This legal outcome will almost certainly lead the NFL to impose a suspension on Rice as part of its disciplinary process, considering the wide receiver violated the league’s personal conduct policy.
