Shedeur Sanders did not play for the Cleveland Browns during a 27-20 loss to against the New York Jets in Week 10. Kevin Stefanski stood firm on his decision to keep Dillon Gabriel as the starting quarterback for the entire game, and the direct consequence is that the team now holds a 2-7 record with almost no chance of reaching the playoffs.
Since Gabriel was named QB1, the Browns have recorded four losses in five games and havenāt been able to score more than 20 points. Adding to that the inexplicable trade of Joe Flacco within the division to the Bengals, the pressure on Stefanski is at an all-time high.
Many fans and experts are wondering if now is the right time to give Shedeur a chance to see whether he has the potential to be the starting quarterback in the future. The head coach has announced his final decision.
Is Shedeur Sanders going to be starting quarterback for the Browns?
No. After the game against the New York Jets, head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed that despite the loss, Dillon Gabriel will remain the starting quarterback.
āWeāre going to stick with Dillon. Obviously, these are young players that youāre always trying to get one game better and those type of things, but, we have to play better as an offense. We have to coach better. I know there are some plays that heās going to want back. I thought he made some plays with his feet also in this game, but, you can always improve. We got to look at all of it and find ways to work together.ā
Although Shedeur wonāt play in the next game against the Ravens, itās important to remember a report from Tony Rizzo indicating that a plan could be already in place to give Shedeur an opportunity.
āI was told by two different sources. One said Shedeur will start the last four games of the season. No matter what. Unless the Browns win every game through the Titans week, Shedeur will play the Bears, Bills, Steelers and Bengals. They want to see what heās got. Another person said, he could be in play earlier than that.ā
