The rebuilding of the New York Jets promises tough decisions. The departure of Aaron Rodgers was one of them. The roster cleanup continues, and Davante Adams, the quarterback’s primary backup, will not be with the team for the 2025 NFL season. At the same time, another receiver in New Jersey sees the exit door.
It appears that everything Rodgers-related will be out of the Jets’ hands for the upcoming season. Adams had arrived in the final hours of last year’s trade season at the express request of the 41-year-old quarterback, but a few months later, the Jets don’t have him in their plans.
Rodgers, for his part, was the first to receive the news of his non-tenure. It was a decision made by head coach Aaron Glenn along with general manager Darren Mougey, who made it clear that ultimately it was best for the Jets to move in a different direction. That direction includes offering another former Rodgers teammate a way out.

Following Adams’ departure, news broke that the Jets were giving wide receiver Allen Lazard permission to seek a trade to leave the team. Lazard was not only a teammate of Adams and Rodgers with the Jets, but the three players also shared a roster spot with the Green Bay Packers.

Still, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter, the decision is just a search for options, not a permanent departure. The Jets would even be open to bringing Lazard back to the team. The veteran wide receiver has two years remaining on his four-year contract.

Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams, and Allen Lazard played together on the Green Bay Packers for four seasons: from 2018 to 2021. During that period, all three were part of the team, with Adams as the star receiver, Rodgers as the quarterback, and Lazard as a key receiver in the offense.
Rodgers’ association with his former teammates has not worked out
Coach Glenn and the Jets organization are making changes to the roster. The strategy of bringing in an experienced star like Rodgers, along with the inclusion of old acquaintances like Adams or Lazard, did not work out as expected. The team once again failed to achieve the desired success, leading management to part ways with Adams and Rodgers this offseason.
