Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers are willing to wait for Aaron Rodgers, but in the process, they could lose their best player. According to a report by Ian Rapoport, TJ Watt is unhappy with the lack of attention he has received from the team before entering the final year of his contract.
“It rarely is actually nothing. Generally, when a player makes a cryptic social media post, it’s almost never nothing. Did TJ Watt just say: ‘You know what, I kind of look like a boss in that picture, I’m just going to put it up so the fans know how cool I am.’ That seems far fetched to me. I don’t think the picture is for that.”
Although Watt has stated several times that he wants to win a Super Bowl in Pittsburgh, the defensive player sparked a major controversy in recent hours on social media by posting a photo on Instagram with two fingers raised, possibly saying goodbye. It’s a message that no one has fully understood and, above all, doesn’t make sense given the current circumstances unless there’s something behind it.
Will TJ Watt get contract extension with Steelers?
TJ Watt is hoping to get a contract extension with the Pittsburgh Steelers soon because other players in his position are receiving historic deals. Myles Garrett signed for $40 million per year with the Browns, and Micah Parsons will likely be close to that benchmark with the Dallas Cowboys.
In addition, the Steelers have shown in recent weeks that money is not an issue. DK Metcalf signed a massive five-year, $150 million contract without even being on the team, and Aaron Rodgers could ask for at least $35 million per season. In this scenario, Rapoport states that Watt is not happy.

“T.J. Watt is in a contract negotiation situation with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Generally, when a player makes a social media post that forces us to talk about in on TV, like we’re doing right now, it’s because contract negotiations aren’t going as well as anybody had hoped. I think we can safely say that contract talks between T.J. Watt and the Steelers are not off to a rip-roaring start. Doesn’t mean they won’t get there. They’ve gotten there before. He’s a great player who deserves every penny.”
