Aaron Rodgers still hasn’t responded to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the uncertainty surrounding the franchise’s future for the 2025 NFL season continues to grow. Head coach Mike Tomlin could be facing a serious challenge amid the hypothetical scenarios emerging.
Rodgers has cited “personal issues” as the reason for delaying his decision, though his biographer, Ian O’Connor, suggests it’s likely he’ll join the team before the mandatory minicamp in June. The veteran quarterback’s arrival in Pittsburgh seems imminent, but it comes with potential consequences.
NFL insider Chris Broussard spoke on FS1’s First Take and shared a rather pessimistic outlook regarding Rodgers’ potential arrival to the Steelers, calling it a risky plan for Tomlin after 18 seasons in Pittsburgh.
“I love Mike Tomlin. I generally like the Steelers. I don’t necessarily want this to be true, but I think this is going to be their first losing season under Mike Tomlin with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback,” Broussard said about A-Rod joining the black and gold franchise.

Tomlin’s record with the Steelers
Tomlin has never had a losing regular season since taking over as the Steelers’ head coach in January 2007. That mark stands as an unprecedented record in NFL history, which would make breaking it a painful blow for the team. At the same time, the gamble is so big that Tomlin’s future in Pittsburgh might not be secure if the Rodgers move backfires.

Who will be the Steelers’ quarterback in the 2025 NFL season?
It’s clear that the Steelers are waiting on Rodgers, though at the same time they have limited options at the quarterback position, including Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson, and rookie Will Howard, who is considered one of the prospects with breakout potential in the league. This context increases the pressure to secure a proven veteran quarterback.
