Aaron Rodgers continues to delay his response to the Pittsburgh Steelers‘ offer, as they want him as their starting quarterback for the 2025 NFL season. Meanwhile, new names are emerging as potential reinforcements for Mike Tomlin’s team, including a veteran quarterback.
Steelers owner Art Rooney II made it clear that they will continue waiting for Rodgers, but not for much longer. The former Super Bowl champion with the Green Bay Packers remains a mystery only he can solve. As time ticks away, Tomlin still doesn’t have a quarterback for the upcoming season.
Amid this unfolding saga, a veteran quarterback is looking to leave his team and had already been rumored as a potential target for the Steelers if things with Rodgers don’t work out. In that regard, NFL insider Mike Florio has shared new information that adds more details to the situation.
Experienced QB who could be option for Steelers
The veteran quarterback who could be an alternative for the Steelers is none other than Kirk Cousins, who may be looking to leave the Atlanta Falcons since his starting role isn’t guaranteed. However, Pittsburgh wouldn’t be the only contender. “For now, Steelers, Browns, Falcons seem to be the top (and perhaps only) options,” Florio revealed in NBC Sports.

Kirk Cousins, quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons
Cousins signed a lucrative contract with Atlanta last season, which includes a no-trade clause that would allow him to leave only after the draft. The Cleveland Browns are the main team interested in the 36-year-old veteran, but Florio also considers the Steelers a possible destination. “If Aaron Rodgers doesn’t sign, they’ll be stuck,” Florio said. In that scenario, the Falcons QB could be a viable alternative.

Where will Cousins play in the 2025 NFL season?
Given the situation, Cousins has three options: wait until after the draft and sign with the Browns, wait for Rodgers to decline Pittsburgh’s offer and join the Steelers, or stay with the Falcons as Michael Penix Jr.’s backup even if it requires a salary restructuring. Regardless of which path he takes, the former Minnesota Vikings quarterback shares the same A-Rod-waiting attitude.
