The painful loss by the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl final is proof that although a team can make deep playoff runs for three consecutive seasons, winning the Vince Lombardi Trophy is never easy. In that sense, star quarterback Patrick Mahomes revealed what the head coach Andy Reid’s team did wrong last season before the Super Bowl loss.

After a long offseason break, NFL teams are back on the field to complete training camp before the preseason games leading up to a new league edition. The Chiefs are once again considered strong contenders, but Mahomes doesn’t want that to be just an empty phrase. In his role as the team’s main leader, he was self-critical about what happened last campaign.

Reid has given the franchise more than enough tools, building a roster full of key players that has turned into a modern dynasty. Quarterback Mahomes is the biggest example of that and explained his approach when asked about the things the Chiefs failed at the 2025 Super Bowl.

Why did the Chiefs lose the Super Bowl?

“It has always been fun playing on the Kansas City Chiefs, and that is what makes it special, and I feel like last year, I do not want to say there was pressure, but guys wanted to go out there and win every single week. Not for the fun of the game but just because they are supposed to,” Mahomes responded on the Up and Adams Show with Kay Adams.
