Bill Belichick is one of the greatest masterminds football has ever seen. He holds the record for most Super Bowl rings with six and orchestrated one of the most dominant dynasties in NFL history with his New England Patriots. Heās also known for being a bit of a revolutionary when it comes to changing the rules of the game.
Belichick raved about the need of having cameras in the sidelines and the endzone and has made a bit of a reputation for bending the rulebooks in his favor when the Patriots have been involved in cheating scandals.
Thatās why heās one of the people the league should consult when trying to make some changes to the rules. And, according to his recent interview on NBCās Rich Eisen Show, heās got a couple of suggestions to make NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
Bill Belichick Wants To Change The Pass Interference Rule
The legendary coach said that the NFL should take a page out of the NCAAās rulebook and use their pass interference rule. That way, the team would only be enforced with a 15-yard penalty instead of the offense picking up a lot of yards.
āI think probably the one thing that is worth looking at is just the college pass interference rules. know why itās what it is, and I also know why itās different in college, and you could argue both sides of it. But itās a big penalty, and sometimes those are just tough calls. So I think thatās worth looking at,ā Belichick said.
Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers have made a name for themselves for making the most of those kinds of situations. They pick up huge yardage on pass interference plays to make something out of a broken play.
Thatās why Belichick went on to say that he would rather that the NFL and NCAA shared most of the rules, so players and fans donāt have to go through that adjustment period between one level and the other.
āI would say just in general, I would be in favor of the NCAA and the NFL trying to consolidate the rulebook to where we can have as many rules be the same as possible so that the fans, as well as the players who come from college, can make a clean transition into the same set of rules instead of different ones,ā the Patriotsā coach concluded.
Truthbe told, Belichick has a valid point here. And, obviously, him talking about changing the rules doesnāt imply that the league is actually going to do anything about it but they should at least consider his proposal.
