Stafford was supposed to train almost a week ago and head coach Sean McVay said he even threw 60+ passes in a practice session. Stafford hasn’t been seen practicing since that. After the game vs. Chargers, this topic was the one in everyone’s mind.

Aubrey Pleasant, assistant head coach, took the coaching duties against the Chargers. During the press conference, he was asked about Stafford. At this point in time, anything regarding Mr. Stafford, I’m going to wait for Coach McVay to address you guys on Monday,” Pleasant said. No update was given whatsoever.

Meanwhile, Stetson Bennett delivered the goods

While it’s expected that NFL veteran Jimmy Garoppolo is the next in line if Stafford misses time, former two-time College Football champion Stetson Bennett took the field vs. Chargers and he was stellar, including a game-winning drive.

Bennett threw 28/40 passes for 324 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. His favorite target was Brennan Presley who caught six passes for 102 yards. He effectively dominated the Chargers all game long. Bennett’s ride in the NFL hasn’t been great, it’s been marked by personal matters and, to this day, he hasn’t been able to make his official debut.

It’s a whole mystery as Sean McVay has said that Stafford is doing well, but the deadlines haven’t been met as to when the quarterback was scheduled to practice. Monday can be more of these cryptic messages. Even if not, it will all be taken with a grain of salt as words and actions haven’t been in concordance on the Stafford matter.

Stafford is 37 years old and has played through a lot of injuries in his career. He is one of the most resilient guys in the NFL, but every new injury carries a lot more weight to him now. Not only that, a back injury itself is always complicated, regardless of the age.
