Russell Wilson was chosen by the New York Giants to help bring the franchise back to the forefront of the NFL. It wonāt be an easy task, of course, but the former Broncos and Steelers quarterback made his feelings clear as preparations got underway in the Big Apple.
The Giantsā recent history has been marked by one quarterback misstep after another ā not only through the draft but also in various trades. This year, however, the approach feels different, as the team has placed its bet on one of the top quarterbacks in the game today. As a result, hopes for a strong season are growing by the day.
During a recent appearance on the ā7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthonyā podcast, Wilson shared a thoughtful reflection on this new chapter in his career, expressing his excitement about taking on the challenges that come with playing in New York.
āThe opportunity here is so great,ā Wilson said. āI donāt mind the lights. I donāt mind that part of it. I think the other part of it for me, most importantly of it all that, is Iāve been here before. When you walk into a stadium, into a locker room and you know, like my locker is the same locker I had when I won the Super Bowl. So, for me, when I see that, when I walk into the stadium Iām like, Iāve been here before. Not just been here but, like, we did this before.

āSo, I fundamentally believe itās possible again in terms of being successful again and being at the highest level. I think we got the right guys. ⦠Thereās a lot of good pieces to it. And itās a show.ā

Wilsonās enthusiasm to team up with Brian Daboll
One of the reasons that may have excited Russell Wilson about signing with the Giants was the opportunity to work closely with Brian Daboll. In addition to that, the quarterback also highlighted how much he values the chance to play under offensive coordinator Mike Kafka.
āHere with Dabes, Iām excited because his offensive wizardry is really special,ā the veteran QB said. āHim and (offensive coordinator Mike) Kafka, a guy who played quarterback in the league, just the rest of the staff, too ⦠people that I know and people that I believe in. Iām excited about the opportunity.ā
It will be a matter of seeing, as the weeks unfold starting in September, whether this strong connection between both sides can truly translate onto the field.
The Wilson-Nabers connection is already generating buzz
Malik Nabers entered the NFL last season as one of the top offensive prospects in his class. Like any rookie, the adjustment period wasnāt easy, but Russell Wilson knows that from now on, they have the potential to achieve great things together for their team.
āMalik Nabers, man, dudeās a superstar,ā Wilson said. āI was watching the film trying to make decisions, trying to get a clear understanding of who the players are, this and that. Obviously, you see the highlights and everything else, but when you watch every single catch and every single rep and every play, you get to see the kind of player he is. Heās dynamic. He touches the football, he gone.ā
