Auston Matthews couldn’t do much to prevent the Toronto Maple Leafs’ defeat as the Ottawa Senators emerged victorious, adding another consecutive win where Brady Tkachuk contributed with an assist.
Following the painful 4-2 game, Matthews had to speak candidly about his perspective on the Senators on the ice, stating primarily, “They’re a hungry team,” while also acknowledging that Tkachuk’s team has faced challenges throughout the season, “They’ve been through some ups & downs & a lot of guys that came into the league early on…”
The challenge the Maple Leafs faced on the rink showcased how well the Ottawa team has been playing, with Matthews adding, “their game’s matured & they’re playing well as a team right now.” The victory against Toronto marks their sixth consecutive win since March 5.
There is still much to play for in the month, but Matthews himself recognizes that the Senators aim to make a playoff push, “They’re making a big push at the moment,” stated the Leafs’ captain, who managed to score a goal in the 21:55 minutes he spent on the ice.
The Maple Leafs appear strong on the road to the playoffs
Despite the defeat, their fourth in March, the Maple Leafs look solid heading towards the NHL postseason. They currently hold 81 points in the 3rd spot in the Atlantic Division behind Tampa and Florida. Many games remain this month, and April presents further opportunities for the team to accumulate points.
