<h2>DeRozan Wants To Be A Knick</h2>



According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, DeRozan will be highly coveted. Nonetheless, he would have the Knicks and Miami Heat as preferred destinations if he were to be moved:



“When it comes to possible destinations, the Heat and Knicks are known to be preferable to DeRozan if he winds up getting moved,” Amick Wrote. “Our Jovan Buha revealed recently that the Lakers are interested in DeRozan (and former Laker Alex Caruso) more than LaVine, which makes perfect sense to anyone who remembers how LeBron James courted DeRozan three summers ago.”



<h2>Knicks Haven’t Approached The Bulls</h2>



As of now, the Knicks have yet to make an approach to the Bulls regarding any of their star players, according to team insider Stefan Bondy. Even so, the team is reportedly active in trade talks looking to bolster their roster right now:



“Several reports state that the Bulls are open to moving Zach LaVine and other veterans, like DeMar DeRozan. The Athletic reported that the Knicks would be a desired landing spot for DeRozan. This makes sense as DeRozan also strongly considered signing with New York in the 2021 offseason,” wrote Bondy. “But as of earlier this week, the Knicks hadn’t engaged in any advanced talks with Chicago on any of their players, per SNY sources.”

<h2>It’s Now Or Never</h2>



The Knicks have missed many opportunities to sign star players in free agency, and their current reality is that it might be easier for them to trade for one than to actually convince one to join them at MSG.

“I’ve actually heard that they’re more interested in DeMar DeRozan and Alex Caruso. A.C., he’s the one that got away,” Buha said in an appearance on Hoops Tonight, via Lakers Nation. “Lakers fans, it still bothers them. Inside of the organization, it’s still a very divisive topic. And then DeMar is someone the Lakers have courted for several years now.“



<h2>This could make more sense for the Lakers</h2>



DeRozan could bring not only an upgrade in terms of talent but also more veteran presence in the locker room. The team has good memories from Caruso’s time in LA, where he contributed to the franchise’s 17th NBA championship in 2020.

Besides, the financial factor could make them even more logical targets for the Lakers. While LaVine is due more than $40 million in each of the three seasons remaining on his contract, DeRozan’s deal is up in 2024 and Caruso is making less than $10m in the next two years.

“Both of those guys are on more manageable contracts. Alex has a partial guarantee for next season, DeMar is an expiring contract,” Buha added. “DeMar comes in, he’s that over the top shotmaker that the team seemingly doesn’t really have outside of when LeBron’s jumper is falling. And then Alex Caruso, one of the best point of attack defenders in the league, one of the best perimeter in the league period. We’ve seen the success he’s had next to LeBron and AD in a Lakers jersey, so I think both of those guys make more sense within what the Lakers need. There’s real interest in all three guys, but from what I’ve heard DeMar and Alex are higher on their priority list.”



<h2>Lakers aim to go further than last season</h2>



In Darvin Ham’s first year as head coach, the Lakers built on an unexpected resurgence after the February deadline to make the 2023 Conference Finals. They didn’t have enough firepower to compete against eventual champions Nuggets, but they certainly laid a foundation for this season.

On top of that, both DeMar DeRozan and <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/zach-lavine" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Zach LaVine</a> left with injuries, which headlines a bigger concern.



Even though it’s still early in the season, the Bulls are less than likely to turn things around unless they either make some radical lineup changes or change their roster. The front office has Billy Donovan’s back, so a coaching change could be out of the question.



That means the team needs to come to terms with the fact that they just have to trade Zach LaVine, and they cannot have him miss any more games with injuries, as they just drive his trade value down. LaVine has a long history of injuries, and he’s already missed games with knee and foot ailments this season.



And with the Los Ange<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/los-angeles-lakers" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">les Lakers</a> reportedly keeping tabs on his situation, perhaps the Bulls need to start being more careful with their star guard’s minutes and workload.

The Lakers got off to a slow start to the season, and while their interest in LaVine has been reported multiple times in the past, they cannot make any big moves right now after making so many signings in the offseason, as they need to wait until those players are eligible to be traded. 



With that in mind, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that they’re going to be quite patient and do their due diligence on any player they potentially trade for this season:



“I think the Lakers will be patient. We saw what happened last year during the season. There was call for changes, Rob Pelinka and that front office they took a more diligent approach,” said Charania. “They pursued Kyrie Irving at the trade deadline, but then they went the other route, got a bunch of good role players, assembled a team that was kinda similar to that 2020 championship team, with high level rotation players and they go to the Western Conference Finals.”



<h2>Bulls Want Austin Reaves</h2>



The Bulls are no stranger to the Lakers’ potential interest in LaVine, obviously. According to Charania, they would ask for Austin Reaves in any trade package for their coveted star, assuming the Lakers are willing to pay LaVine’s steep salary.



“I expect them to express interest in Zach LaVine, but he’s making almost $40 million. So to total the salaries to reach that amount in a trade, guys like D’Angelo Russell, Rui Hachimura, they are not both trade eligible until mid-January,” added Charania. “The Bulls, I’m sure, would covet Austin Reaves in any potential Zach LaVine trade, as any team would. If you’re the Lakers and you’re out there trying to pursue a third star, whether that’s Zach LaVine, anyone else that becomes available, the player that teams will ask about is Austin Reaves 100%. To this point the Lakers have not been inclined to move Austin Reaves, they didn’t put him in a deal for Kyrie Irving.”



Reaves is a valuable part of the Lakers’ rotation, but he hasn’t played well this season, and he might never turn out to become a star, so the Lakers could actually cave in to these demands if they’re desperate to land LaVine.

<h2>LaVine costs way more than Herro</h2>



Though LaVine has failed to prove he can be the leading star of a team with serious aspirations – he made just one playoff appeareance in Chicago (a first-round exit in 2022), he’s still a player that draws interest in the market.

LaVine is making just over $40m this season, but he’s due $43m and $45.9m in the next two years. Besides, he holds a player option for the 2026-27 season of nearly $49 million. Herro, on the other hand, is making $27m this season and won’t exceed $33m in any of the remaining seasons on his current four-year contract.

This may be painful for LaVine, who reportedly sees Miami as one of his favorite landing spots in the event of a trade. According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, the Heat are one of teams preferred by LaVine and his camp along with the Los Angeles Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers.

And according to NBA insider Marc Stein, the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/los-angeles-lakers" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Los Angeles Lakers</a> could be a safe haven for the UCLA product, who also happens to share agents with <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/lebron-james" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">LeBron James</a> and Anthony Davis. However, it’s not like they’re willing to break the bank for him.

<h2>Lakers May Not Be That High On LaVine</h2>



“Philadelphia’s interest in LaVine has been overstated, as covered here, while I’ve been advised that the Lakers’ reported interest at this early juncture of the season is best described (at most) as TBD,” Stein wrote.



There’s another determining factor, which is that the Lakers cannot trade most of their potential trade chips until later in the season, and the Bulls might not want to wait for that long:



“The Lakers, for starters, couldn’t trade Austin Reaves or Rui Hachimura even if they wanted to before Jan. 15. A further slew of summer signees — D’Angelo Russell, Gabe Vincent, Taurean Prince, Cam Reddish, Jaxson Hayes and Christian Wood — can’t be traded before Dec. 15,” added Stein.



<h2>Lakers Want To Get Better From Within</h2>



The Los Angeles Lakers could use another floor-spacer next to LeBron and Anthony Davis. Then again, LaVine is entering the second year of a five-year pact, and the new CBA makes it tough to put together three players making big money.

LaVine is set to make north of $43 million this season. That’s a lot of money for a potential third-scoring option with a history of subpar defense and a temper. Perhaps that’s why the Lakers are reportedly looking to get better from within:



“I’m told the Lakers, at present, are focused on internal improvement, hopeful that getting Jarred Vanderbilt (who is ineligible to be traded this season after signing an extension with the Lakers in September) and Vincent back on the floor regularly will give them a meaningful boost,” Stein added.

Whether Rob Pelinka goes through another roster overhaul or not remains to be seen, and it’s still way too early in the season. However, we’ve heard and seen this story way too many times in the past not to at least keep an eye on what’s going on in Southern California.



Conversely, the<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/chicago-bulls" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Chicago Bulls</a> have some major struggles of their own, and with <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/zach-lavine" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Zach LaVine’s</a> latest incident with a Bulls’ PR representative and all the trade rumors around him, a move somewhere else seems imminent.



LaVine took just nine shots in the Bulls’ latest loss and looked like someone who had given up on his team, and it’s not the first time he’s had some issues with Billy Donovan’s coaching. With that in mind, the Lakers represent a logical potential destination.

<h2>Lakers Are Keeping An Eye On Chicago</h2>



According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, the Lakers do have a real interest in trading for LaVine, who’s a UCLA product and also represented by Rich Paul and Klutch Sports, just like LeBron and Anthony Davis:



“The Lakers’ interest in LaVine is real — at the right price,” wrote Buha. “However, LaVine’s potential availability also hints at the possibility of a fire sale in Chicago, with the organization seemingly looking to finally pivot away from its longstanding mediocrity. If additional Bulls players become available, the Lakers would also have interest in DeMar DeRozan and/or former Laker Alex Caruso, according to multiple team sources.”



Of course, they would have to wait until the Bulls bottom out and make their players available first, which could happen at any point between now and the trade deadline.



<h2>It Won’t Be Easy</h2>



The Lakers need to make sure to accommodate LaVine’s contract on their books. He’s slightly overpaid, and the new CBA makes it difficult to have three players making big bucks at the same time:

“The Lakers’ biggest concern in a potential LaVine trade is his gigantic contract: In addition to his $40.1 million salary for 2023-24, he’s owed $138 million over the next three years (which includes a $49 million player option in 2026-27 he seems likely to exercise),” Buha reported. “Moreover, LaVine has a 15 percent trade kicker that he’d almost certainly have to waive to make a trade to the Lakers feasible financially.”



On top of that, most of the Lakers’ potential trade chips won’t be eligible for a trade until Dec. 15, and it’s not like they could make up for an appealing trade package anyway:



“The Lakers would realistically have to wait until at least until Dec. 15, when most of their roster becomes trade-eligible (Russell, Gabe Vincent, Taurean Prince, Reddish, Christian Wood and Jaxson Hayes),” Buha continued. “Beyond that, Reaves and Rui Hachimura become trade eligible on Jan. 15. (Davis becomes trade eligible on Feb. 6, but don’t expect them to move him or James. Jarred Vanderbilt cannot be traded due to his multi-year contract extension.) The Lakers aren’t interested in including Reaves in a potential LaVine deal despite his recent move to the bench, according to multiple team sources.”

Whether the Bulls will be willing to wait for that long or even be slightly interested in whatever the Lakers have to offer remains to be seen. For now, it seems like multiple teams would be in a better position to land the two-time All-Star at this point.

Fast forward to today, and it seems like the only thing they got right on that prediction was the team’s losing record, as Poole has struggled mightily, and he’s not even the team’s primary ball-handler, shot-creator, or scorer.



Poole is actually averaging one fewer shot per game from his <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/golden-state-warriors" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Golden State Warriors </a>days despite being a starter now. Averaging 15.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.8 three-pointers on 39/27/81 from the floor is not what one would expect from a so-called franchise player.



Also, Poole pretty much admitted that he can now play his own style of basketball, stating that he already won a championship and got paid, which is not the mindset one would want from his stars, either.

With that in mind, NBA insider Marc Stein shared some unsurprising news. Apparently, the Wizards are having second thoughts about Poole being a potential franchise cornerstone. And with him being in the first year of a four-year, $128 million contract, they could look to send him somewhere else. But where? Let’s break it down.



<h2>3. Miami Heat</h2>



The Miami Heat have been actively pursuing an upgrade at the point guard position for quite a while. Kyle Lowry is no longer a starting-caliber player, and while Poole isn’t a primary playmaker, he could take some pressure off Jimmy Butler in that regard.



The Heat have failed to acquire every single trade or free-agency target they’ve had for years. Poole isn’t the best player on that list by any means, but they could be desperate enough to pull it off.



That would pretty much mean they’ve given up on Tyler Herro and sent him to the nation’s capital, as it’s hard to envision him coexisting in the backcourt with Poole, especially for defensive purposes.

The New Orleans Pelicans could find it challenging to accommodate Poole’s salary on their books, but they do have more than enough young players and assets to make an interesting offer.



C.J. McCollum will be out for the foreseeable future, and they could use another offensive initiator on the court. Also, with Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson both prone to injury, he’d give them another insurance policy.



Poole isn’t a good defender, and the Pelicans could struggle to hide him on that end of the court. Then again, he and Zion could potentially do a lot of damage in the pick-and-roll.



<h2>1. Chicago Bulls</h2>



We’ve already talked about desperate teams, and the Chicago Bulls definitely fit that criteria. They’re close to bottoming out and blowing up their roster, but that has never been the way they do business.



The Bulls have always chosen to be somewhat competitive as opposed to starting from scratch. That means they could look to trade for a young and still promising player like Poole and some spare parts and picks instead of just giving up on the season.

The Philadelphia 76ers are a seamless fit. He fits their timeline and would obviously be a major offensive upgrade over Tobias Harris, even if he gives up some size. The defense could be an issue, but that Big 3 with Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid would be unstoppable.



Daryl Morey and the Sixers have more than enough assets to put together an offer the Bulls cannot turn down. On the downside, they might want to wait and spend those chips whenever — if — a bigger-profile player becomes available at some point.

<h2>The Heat rotation has changed</h2>



The Heat roster had a few changes on their rotation in the offseason, but they couldn’t land another star next to Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. Damian Lillard was their target for months, but he ended up in Milwaukee.

In the meantime, Erik Spoelstra lost key contributors to the team’s run to the 2023 NBA Finals. Gabe Vincent and Max Strus walked away in free agency, while Victor Oladipo was traded to Oklahoma.



With the season already underway, Miami may not pursue another big-name player and focus on improving its depth instead. And while Caruso hasn’t been placed on the market yet, the Bulls’ struggles could make them enter rebuild mode.



<h2>Bulls may need to rebuild</h2>



With a 4-6 start to the season that sees them 12th in the East, the Bulls are far from that promising team when Lonzo Ball was healthy. Even with the likes of Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Nikola Vucevic still on the roster, they cannot seem to get things going. If the results don’t change, Chicago could end up trading before the deadline.

“Coveted is a good word for him. If you want to make a trade tomorrow they could trade Alex Caruso,” the executive told Heavy Sports. “Half the teams in the league would be there with an offer. There’s a lot of teams monitoring that situation and they’re looking at Caruso more than anyone on that roster. Just a matter of when the Bulls are ready to make changes and ready to let him go.”



Caruso has definitely made a name for himself in the league, despite being initially overlooked in the 2016 NBA Draft. That’s why, if the Bulls consider the idea of trading him, a number of teams may pick up the phone.

Should that be the case, then the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/los-angeles-lakers" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Los Angeles Lakers</a> would love to bring Alex Caruso back, according to an unnamed Eastern Conference executive:



“The rumor around the Lakers was they regretted letting him go almost immediately after it happened,” one Eastern Conference exec told Heavy Sports. “They knew that was a mistake. He’s not the same player now, but the Lakers are worried they don’t have enough of an edge. He could be someone who helps fix that.”

<h2>Bulls Want A Lot For Him</h2>



Despite not being a big-name player, Caruso has made countless big-time plays. He’s the heart and soul of the second unit and one of the best defenders in the game, even clamping up Kevin Durant in the post despite giving up like five inches.



He’s a fan favorite and an instant-energy guy. He’s the kind of championship-caliber role-player teams would be tempted to overpay for. That’s why, according to Sean Deveney, the Bulls were looking to get a big haul for him last season:



“Last year, the Bulls were rumored to be seeking two first-round picks for Caruso, which was taken by some to mean they were not all that interested in trading him at all—no one was going to give up that much for a role player like Caruso,” reported Deveney.



Per the executive, the Lakers wouldn’t even be close to meeting that steep price, but they do have some young assets that could interest the Bulls if they enter rebuild mode:

“They wouldn’t give up a (first-round) pick, but they could give up (Jalen) Hood-Schifino and another contract if they wait until December 15. Or Max Christie, he has some value,” the executive said. “They’re not giving up a pick, but they have young guys they can put up there.”



<h2>Lakers Could Face Competition</h2>



The Lakers are in desperate need of someone who could provide some spark off the bench and another defender, but they’re not the only ones looking for that kind of skill set. According to the report, multiple teams could also pursue the Texas A&amp;M product:

There may not be much defensive prowess between the four, but offense-first clubs can rule the modern NBA. Just ask the reigning champion Denver Nuggets, who were fifth in offensive efficiency but only 15th at the other end this past season.
