The <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/golden-state-warriors" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Golden State Warriors</a> are just 10-12 after 22 games. That’s not the kind of record one would expect from a so-called <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA</a> championship contender, especially after watching some of the games they’ve lost.



Their title core is playing like a shell of themselves. Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins have been quite inefficient from all three levels, and the team has run out of gas in almost every contest they’ve played this season.



Of course, they still have more than enough time to turn things around and go back to being the same dominant team they were once, even without making any trades. However, coach <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/steve-kerr" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Steve Kerr</a> will have to figure something out, as his team is being run out of the court night in and night out.



With that in mind, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/stephen-curry" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Stephen Curry</a> urged his coaching staff to shake things up a little. He believes other teams have finally caught up to them and what they’re used to doing, so that’s not going to be enough anymore.

<h2>Curry Wants Warriors To Change</h2>



“It’s difficult for everybody,” Curry said. “It’s not that we can just roll the ball out and do the same thing we’ve been doing. Because, obviously, teams have adapted. There’s a certain expectation of how we play. We’ve been in situations this year where we’ve obviously lost some big leads because we haven’t been able to adapt quickly enough in those types of games when things aren’t going our way.”



The Warriors changed the way the game was played, but a lot has transpired ever since that moment. Now, all teams are trying to replicate what they did; there are no secrets anymore. And with them not getting any younger, it’s hard to keep up with them. Now, the clock is ticking in the Bay area:



“Results do matter,” Curry said. “Our starting lineup hasn’t been as great as it was before, for a couple of reasons probably. Wiggs [Wiggins] has been in and out. Matchups. And us not thinking we can just win games the same way we have all the time. You have to be open to because it’s not acceptable to have an off year. To mail it in and say, ‘We’ll figure it out later.’ That’s not who we are. It’s hard. But it’s supposed to be.”



<h2>Kerr Needs To Prove Himself</h2>



Steve Kerr has been under the scope for quite a while now. His job in charge of Team USA left a lot to be desired, and some are starting to question whether he was as good a coach as it seemed or just a byproduct of the Warriors’ depth and greatness.

He’s been unwilling to give the younger players a longer leash, even though both Moses Moody and Jonathan Kuminga look poised for bigger roles. Also, Trayce Jackson-Davis could give them some much-needed minutes as a backup big, yet he can’t seem to crack the rotation.

Kerr has gone to war with this core over and over, so it’s easy to understand his reluctance to shake things up. But times change, and a coach’s job is to adapt and overcome these circumstances, even if that means making uncomfortable decisions.

The <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/golden-state-warriors" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Golden State Warriors</a> are 10-12 through the first quarter of the season. They’re sitting on the 11th spot in the Western Conference, and look far from the team that won the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA</a> championship just two years ago, even though they have the same core.



The Warriors have gotten off to strong starts to games but they seem to run out of gas down the stretch. They’ve blown big leads over and over, and coach<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/steve-kerr" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Steve Kerr</a> can’t seem to find his best rotations.



The team has talked about this slow start over and over, but with 25% of the regular season already on the books and an early exit in the In-Season Tournament, it seems like they’re past talking right now.



That’s why Kerr and <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/stephen-curry" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Stephen Curry</a> opened up about how they need to take a deep look in the mirror and be better once and for all. There’s still time, but they cannot wait any longer.

<h2>Warriors Are Frustrated</h2>



“It’s a pattern right now,” Kerr said. “I watched this same group win a championship a year and a half ago. They’re champions. But they’re not playing like it. I’m not coaching like it. We have to figure this out.”



Curry isn’t usually pessimistic, but he hasn’t looked as joyful as per usual. The greatest shooter of all time has had enough, and he wants the team to act like it and not just talk like it:



“I don’t know, man,” Curry said. “Gotta figure out how to stop talking about it and do it. Or else you’ll be into the new year with the same problems. I’m kinda sick of talking about it.”



<h2>Thompson Is Still Confident In The Team</h2>



Klay Thompson, on the other hand, isn’t as blunt and as pessimistic. He still has plenty of confidence in the team’s ability to turn things around, and even though he understands why the players are frustarted, he knows they’ve been there and done that way too many times:

“(The criticism) It’s probably warranted,” Thompson said. “But I can’t subscribe to that stuff though. I’ve been in this business so long. You just got to do what you can do every day to get better. Can’t listen to the outside noise. It’ll drive you nuts. Just work on yourself. Be the best you can for your team.”



Thompson’s shooting slump is one of the main reasons behind the Warriors’ woes. He has been up and down this season, and having him and Andrew Wiggins posting career-worst numbers, scoring and efficiency-wise, has raised plenty of questions about their future in the starting lineup.



Moses Moody and Jonathan Kuminga seem ready to break out, yet coach Kerr hasn’t given them a longer leash in favor of his veterans. Then again, they might put him in a tough spot if they continue to outplay their more experienced teammates.

There are still 60 games left in the season, and the Warriors have proven that they cannot be counted out, regardless of how bad things look. Even so, they cannot expect different results if they continue to do the same things over and over.

But things could have gone completely different, as the Dubs head coach thought Steph would end up elsewhere.



In an appearance on “Headliners” with Rachel Nichols, Kerr revealed the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/phoenix-suns">Phoenix Suns</a> could have selected Curry in the 2009 NBA Draft. By then, he was still the team’s general manager.



“I was the GM in Phoenix from 07-10, so your draft year was 09,” Kerr said to Curry, via Sports Illustrated. “We were looking at Steph and seeing Steve Nash, the next version. They were so alike in so many ways, and we had watched just become two-time MVP. So, all of the concerns that most of the people in the league had about Steph in terms of size and defense and athleticism, we saw everything we needed to see in that Steve had just done so much in the league.“



The Suns may have had Curry on their radar, but the Warriors were ahead of them in the cue. Golden State selected the Davidson product 7th overall, while Phoenix used its 14th pick on Earl Clark.

<h2>Steve Kerr says Suns had made a deal to get Curry</h2>



Since the Suns ran from behind in the draft order, they reportedly try and anticipate to any team getting Curry before them. Kerr said the team even struck a deal to land Steph before draft night.

“We tried to trade for him, and we thought we had a deal the night before the draft, it wasn’t completed,” Kerr added. “It was basically a discussion over the phone that we thought was done, so when he fell to 7, our draft room erupted. Because we thought the deal was in place and Steph was going to be a Phoenix Sun. It didn’t happen, it fell through. We knew how much we liked him, and that was part of the appeal when I was offered the job to come to the Warriors.“



Either way, the Warriors couldn’t be happier with their decision to draft Curry. Not only did he exceeded expectations, but also led the Warriors back to glory days. Even to this day, Steph continues to play a pivotal role in Steve Kerr’s team.

The <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/golden-state-warriors" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Golden State Warriors</a> needed to win by at least 12 points to advance to the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA’s</a> In-Season Tournament’s quarterfinals. Given their recent history with the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/sacramento-kings" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sacramento Kings,</a> that was going to be a bit of an uphill task, as things have gotten quite chippy between the two.



Steve Kerr’s boys hit the ground running from the start. The Warriors led by as many as 24 points in the first half, putting up 72 points on the road against a Kings team that seemed overmatched and outhustled on both ends of the floor.



Then, a series of unfortunate incidents opened up the door for the Kings to storm right back in, making the most of their physicality to get to the free-throw line and flip the script right back in their favor.



Malik Monk knocked down a big mid-range shot with little under 10 seconds left to play to give his team an ensuing one-point lead to put an end to the Warriors’ run in the In-Season Tournament and giving them a major reality check.

<h2>Curry Says Warriors Ran Out Of Gas</h2>



Stephen<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/stephen-curry" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Curry </a>was as spectacular as usual, knocking down 29 points with ten rebounds, six assists, one block, and four three-pointers. The rest of his supporting cast got off to a strong start, but they fell flat in the final two quarters:



“Our first half was pretty solid, probably the best basketball we’ve played on both sides of the floor,” Curry said. “Had a couple of untimely turnovers to start a momentum run. Then they got to the foul line 42 times, which is gonna do a lot of things, easy points, but even on misses or makes, they get to set their defense.”



Curry gave the Kings’ defense a lot of credit, but he knows this is a game they should’ve won. The Warriors have struggled to close out games, and he wants the team to realize they must be better down the stretch: 



“It’s going to be too tough to swallow just because we should have won that game,” Curry said. “We played well enough to win for 40 minutes, and knowing the stretch we’ve been on, we were really motivated. You get to the finish line, and you end up losing. It’s a tough pill to swallow; it’s frustrating. We all got to look ourselves in the mirror.”

<h2>Draymond Was At It Again</h2>



Notably, the Warriors didn’t have their best defender on the floor when they needed him the most. Draymond Green, fresh off a five-game suspension, got himself out of the court by picking up a technical foul and a quick intentional foul in the second half.



Steve Kerr got him out; the Kings went on an 11-3 run to flip the table and get their first lead since their first bucket. It all went downhill from there, with both teams alternating buckets and lead changes.

Green has been unapologetic about his complaints and character, but perhaps it is time his teammates start holding him accountable. He’s just too valuable to keep hurting his team this way, especially during such a critical stretch.

When you look at <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/stephen-curry">Stephen Curry</a>‘s résumé, you assume there’s nothing he hasn’t achieved throughout his career. The <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/golden-state-warriors">Golden State Warriors</a> superstar has won four <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/nba">NBA</a> championships, two MVP awards, one NBA Finals MVP, and made the All-Star game on nine occasions.



He also got to play next to Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green, forming unstoppable teams with them in the Bay area. Even so, the 35-year-old admits he would have loved to play next to other legends to make his career even more memorable. Recently, he mentioned the three players he’d have liked to share the court with. 



“My top three, obviously [Michael] Jordan, [Shaquille O’Neal] and I’d probably say Hakeem Olajuwon,” Curry told NBC Sports Bay Area in a recent episode of the “Dubs Talk” podcast. “I’d like to play with all three of those guys, because I think with Jordan, we all just want to see it up close and personal. And then I think pick-and-roll with me and Hakeem or me and Shaq would be pretty much unstoppable.”



Those are things basketball fans would definitely love to see. While a combo of Steph and MJ would be impossible to hold for opponents, Curry would certainly benefit from pairing with players with the size of Shaq or Hakeem.

Curry was also asked, if he could go back in time, what he would take from these legendary players. When asked whether he would prefer to have MJ’s dominance on the air or Shaq’s strength to physically outplay his opponents, Steph chose the latter. “Probably physically dominating,” he said. “It’s just such the opposite of my experience on the court. That’d be an out-of-body experience, for sure. So I’ve seen the Shaq highlights, I want to break some backboards every once in a while. That’d be fun.”

With everything he’s done for the organization, Curry will always have time for these kinds of topics regardless of the time of the season. That said, the guard knows the Warriors have to turn up their level this year.

With that in mind, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/stephen-curry" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Stephen Curry</a> acknowledged the struggles the team has been through without its best defender and one of their best playmakers, admitting that they desperately need Green back on the court:

“We need him,” continued Curry. “To kind of just focus on the areas of improvement, especially offensively, well, I guess both sides of the ball, offensively in terms of what we’re trying to accomplish in each possession, defensively, be more connected as a unit, and trust in each other a little bit more so that we can be better, like the point of attack, defense, and knowing that we have help side and just being more organized on that front too.”



Fortunately for them, the Warriors will finally get him back on the court for Wednesday night’s divisional clash with the Sacramento Kings. Even so, the four-time NBA champion knows the team still needs to put up a big effort to solve the woes that have hurt them thus far:



“So Draymond being back helps a lot, not just because of what he does defensively with the way he communicates, but it won’t solve everything,” Steph concluded.



<h2>Warriors Are Being Patient</h2>



Trading for Chris Paul was a somewhat bizarre decision. As great a player as he is, he’s by no means a natural fit for their system. Even so, the Warriors continue to stay optimistic about his play and his impact on the second unit, even if the results haven’t been the best thus far.

Then again, the Warriors are a win-now team, and they cannot afford to wait and rest on their laurels while they figure things out. That means they could be looking at making some moves if they don’t improve their record ahead of the trade deadline.



Paul, Jonathan Kuminga, and Moses Moody figure to be the Warriors’ most valuable trade assets at the moment, and while it could be tough to envision which star-caliber player they could target with that set of assets, they’ve proven that they won’t hesitate to be uber-aggressive to overhaul the roster if need be.

Curry clinched his first NBA championship in 2015 against the Cleveland Cavaliers, a season in which he was crowned the Most Valuable Player (MVP). He transformed the perception of what a basketball player, especially a point guard, could achieve, with three-pointers being his specialty.

In 2017 and 2018, the Warriors secured back-to-back championships, solidifying Curry’s status as one of the greatest players in the league. However, he was not done with winning NBA rings.



In 2022, the Warriors clinched another NBA title by defeating the Dallas Mavericks. During the Finals, Curry performed at a peak level, and he was awarded the MVP of these games for the first time in his career.



However, at the age of 35, Curry is entering a new chapter in his career, contemplating retirement. Yet, it appears he’s not ready to distance himself entirely from the world of basketball.



Speaking to NBC, Stephen Curry unveiled that, once he retires, he would be interested in becoming an NBA owner. According to the point guard, his knowledge would be very helpful to improve any franchise.

<h2>What happened between Draymond Green and Jordan Poole?</h2>



During a practice in October 2022, Draymond Green punched Jordan Poole in the face after a heated argument. When the Golden State Warriors were eliminated by the Lakers in the playoffs, Green admitted that the incident was the key factor in their failure to win the championship.







“I absolutely think so (they would still be alive). I don’t think really think anyone could beat us. I’m not taking anything away from the Lakers. We’re not playing right now because when you speak about the fouling, when you speak about all of the slippage that we had as a team on the road, not being able to come together. None of those things happen if that doesn’t happen.”

However, last summer, he was traded to the Wizards and Draymond signed a four-year, $100 million contract. A complete turnaround indeed.

Paul is obviously one of the greatest playmakers of in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA</a> history, but the Warriors already had an elite point guard in Curry. On top of that, Steve Kerr’s offense favored constant movement over halfcourt sets, so Paul’s methodical and somewhat slow-paced style of play seemed like an odd fit.



Most pundits and fans assumed that Paul would come off the bench to lead the second unit, which made the most sense. Then, they would stagger his minutes with Curry and make sure to have one or the other on the court at all times.



However, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/draymond-green" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Draymond Green’s</a> injury forced Kerr’s hand to try and make an adjustment. He started Paul alongside Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, and Kevon Looney, and he almost beat the<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/phoenix-suns" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Phoenix Suns</a> in the season opener.



<h2>Curry Talks About ‘Fluid’ Offense With Chris Paul</h2>



Despite the loss, Steph actually liked what he saw when he shared the floor with Paul. He believes it won’t take time before they get used to playing together and find their groove in this new ‘fluid’ offense.



“Just continue to get more comfortable, and who’s initiating where shots are going to fall or come from, sets that we can run depending on who has the ball. It’s very fluid right now,” Curry said. “It’s such a smooth transition because we both just know how to play, and there’s a lot of trust that whoever has the ball is going to try and make the right decisions.”



Kerr had Paul start and come off the bench in the preseason. It could take a while before they settle in, and nothing is set in stone right now. Even so, Curry has full confidence in their ability to coexist on the floor:



“We’re one game, a couple of preseason games under our belt, feeling like there’s been a lot of confidence that’s been building in terms of what we’re trying to do,” continued Curry. “We’re going to obviously continue to get better, 81 more, and when Draymond gets back, there’s going to be even more to try to figure out in terms of rotations and all that. We communicate really well. We talk basketball and try to figure it out. That’s going to get us in the right position.”



<h2>The Warriors Miss Draymond</h2>



Even so, everything could — and will — change once Draymond is back from his ankle injury. Paul will likely head to the bench, and he’ll give the Warriors more size, a versatile defender, and some sense of continuity to the offense they’ve been running for years now.

The new GM pulled off a shock by sending Jordan Poole to the Wizards for Chris Paul, who had just been traded to Washington by Phoenix. It was a bold move since Poole was expected to be the Warriors’ face in the future. But it proved the Dubs want to maximize their championship window.

Still, the trade raised many questions. On the one hand, Paul had a rivalry with the Dubs, which is why it sound strange to imagine him playing in the Bay area. On the other hand, many wondered how he would fit next to Curry. Well, Steve Kerr has already given signs of that in the preseason, but CP3 may also come off the bench for the first time in his career to lead the second unit. And if there’s one place where he can finally win a championship, that’s Golden State.



The Warriors also made an important move by re-signing Draymond Green, making sure to keep their core together. However, Dunleavy’s actions during free agency shouldn’t go unnoticed.



With Donte DiVincenzo and other role players walking away in the summer, the new general manager had to rebuild the rotation. That’s where Dario Saric and Cory Joseph come in handy for the Dubs.



<h2>Uncertainty around Klay Thompson’s future</h2>



According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Warriors made no progress in their contract talks with Klay Thompson. Unless they reach an agreement, the Splash Brother could hit unrestricted free agency in 2024.

Thompson is not getting any younger – he’ll be 34 in February – and his injury history could make the Warriors hesitate meet the player’s demands. Thompson missed two entire seasons with a torn ACL and an achilles injury, so he’ll probably have to earn a lucrative extension throughout the season.

During his sensational career, Andre Iguodala averaged 11.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 1231 games. He was the 2015 NBA Finals MVP and won a gold medal in the 2012 Olympics. “You want to play at a high level, but then family is a lot. My son is 16 and then two girls. I’m really looking forward to seeing them grow up in those important years.”







Iguodala doesn’t think he’ll accept a coaching job as all his efforts will be focused on his venture firm, Mosaic. Though it probably won’t be at the NBA, ownership at the business level is the next chapter for him.

<h2>Kerr says Steph is the only reason he continues to coach the Dubs</h2>



“I thank my stars every day. Literally every day,. The ability to coach Steph right from the beginning, is the only reason I’m still here is because of the human being he is, not just the player and as talented as he is, but the tone that he sets for the whole group. It just makes my job so much easier,” Kerr told SiriusXM NBA Radio.

While it’s hard to discredit a coach who took a team to six NBA Finals in nine years and won four of them, it’s fair to wonder if his results would have been the same without Curry.



Kerr was hired as coach of the Warriors in 2014, when Curry was already making a name for himself in the league and looked ready to take a step forward in his career. From then on, the Dubs enjoyed the most successful era in their history.

“The stability that we have here over a decade, we wouldn’t have that without Steph,” he said. “I’m lucky to coach him, lucky to watch him every day. He’s been incredible in camp. He’s 35, he’s in the best shape of anybody on the team… The guy’s incredible. We are a week into training camp, and he’s out there, 35 years old, just destroying everybody. He’s amazing.”



Even at 35, Curry is still the biggest reason the Warriors continue to have championship aspirations. Last season he took them as far as he could, but his effort wasn’t enough to hide the team’s shortcomings.



The Dubs lacked consistency throughout the regular season and ended up losing to LeBron James’ Los Angeles Lakers in the Conference Finals. With Bob Myers gone, Mike Dunleavy stayed busy in the offseason, making a number of changes to see if the team can bounce back.

Draymond Green will be a notable absence due to injury. The team said Monday the 33-year-old suffered a left lateral ankle sprain and will be re-evaluated in two weeks. In the meantime, Kerr can try this lineup where both CP3 and Steph get to start.

Yikes! That’s gotta hurt, Steph. But Magic does have the edge in both accolades and individual numbers, especially in the so-called point guard stats, so he’s got a point.
