Sky star Angel Reese sends strong message to officials after loss to Lynx

Following the tough loss to the Minnesota Lynx, the relationship between Chicago Sky star Angel Reese and the league’s officials appears to be anything but smooth.

Since arriving in the WNBA, Angel Reese has proven she’s more than ready for the spotlight — not just through her numbers, but with the physical edge she brings from the opening tip. That intensity often leads the Chicago Sky star to constant friction with opponents, and the latest matchup against the Minnesota Lynx was no exception.

The frustration was evident once the game ended, as the Sky added yet another loss to their season record. Reese made it clear she feels the officials aren’t calling the game the same way for both sides — a situation that’s fueling not only her own discontent, but also that of her teammates.

Speaking to the media after the game, the former LSU star didn’t hide her frustration over the situation — something that’s clearly been bothering her for several weeks now.

“It’s tough when you talk to officials, and I asked them, ‘Hey, we’ve only been to the free throw line twice up until the fourth quarter,’ and she tells me it’s not her job,” she started. “So it’s frustrating because I know how hard we are battling inside, and I think that we came down and fought as hard as we could with what we had, and I just know we continue to grow in this.

“I think this is a leaping step for us, and obviously we know we can compete with the best, but [the officiating] has to be fixed. And I don’t give a damn if I get fined because that (expletive) is cheap, and I’m tired of this (expletive). ‘Cause I’ve been nice and I’ve been humble with it but I am tired of this (expletive).”

Another record for Reese

After grabbing 17 rebounds in the paint during the Sky’s recent loss to the Lynx, Reese became the first player in league history to record 15 or more rebounds in five consecutive games.

During this impressive stretch, Reese has been putting up 17 points, 17.4 rebounds, and five assists per game — numbers that significantly surpass her season averages of 12.4 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 3.8 assists. She’s also the lone player in the WNBA currently averaging double figures in rebounds, comfortably ahead of A’ja Wilson, who ranks second with 9.6 per game.
