The San Francisco 49ers have seen countless departures since the NFL legal tampering period started on Monday. But after losing multiple players for 2025, the team made a move to help Brock Purdy by landing a weapon who won a Super Bowl with Patrick Mahomes before catching passes from Lamar Jackson and Matthew Stafford.

On Tuesday night, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that the Niners are signing wide receiver Demarcus Robinson to a two-year contract worth $9.5 million, with $6.5 million fully guaranteed.

Robinson, who turns 31 in September, arrives in the Bay area with plenty of experience playing alongside star quarterbacks. After teaming up with Mahomes and Jackson, he spent the last two seasons with Stafford on the Los Angeles Rams.

A fourth-round pick in 2016, Robinson spent his first six years in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he where he was part of Mahomes’ offense during the quarterback’s first four seasons as starter.

The Florida product even celebrated the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIV victory against his current team. Even though Mahomes didn’t even target him during the 31-20 win over the 49ers, Robinson earned a ring after playing snaps on offense and special teams that night.

The wide receiver did get on the stats sheet with an 11-yard catch in his second Super Bowl appearance the following year, but it was a forgettable day for the Chiefs as Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the game 31-9.

Robinson stayed with Mahomes and company on a one-year deal before packing his bags in 2022. In six years with the Chiefs, he recorded 145 receptions for 1,679 yards with 14 touchdowns in 97 appearances (42 starts).

Robinson’s time with Lamar Jackson

He landed in Baltimore just in time for the 2022 NFL regular season after a short stint with the Las Vegas Raiders in the offseason, and went on to make five starts in 17 games played. Though Jackson had other weapons, Robinson still caught 48 passes on 75 targets for 458 yards and two touchdowns.

He also recorded a receiving touchdown in the playoffs, but Jackson’s Ravens didn’t bring him back the following year. Instead, Robinson joined forces with another star quarterback by signing for Stafford‘s Rams.

Robinson’s recent tenure with Stafford in LA

Missing only one game in 2023, the wideout made 26 catches for 371 yards and four touchdowns. That saw Robinson earn a one-year, $5 million deal to stay in LA for the 2024 season, where he caught 31 passes from Stafford for 505 yards and seven touchdowns.

In Robinson, the 49ers get a seasoned veteran who has played with some of the best quarterbacks in the league. His experience could be helpful for Purdy, who’s entering his fourth year in the NFL.
