The latest Super Bowl saw Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles decisively defeat the heavily favored Kansas City Chiefs. As if destiny had it planned, both teams will face off again in Week 2 of the 2025 NFL season, leaving Patrick Mahomes and his teammates eagerly anticipating the rematch.
The quarterback for Andy Reid’s team knows that their last outing that February night in New Orleans did not meet expectations — neither for the players nor for Chiefs fans. That’s why they are patiently awaiting the chance to face the current champions again.
In a recent conversation with reporter Kay Adams, Mahomes spoke about facing the Eagles in Week 2 — a game that both insiders and outsiders alike are eager to watch.
“That will be a good one, you know…,” the QB stated this when asked about this game. “…you continue to play the Eagles on Week 2, Super Bowl rematch. Obviously got after us this Super Bowl and so it will be a great challenge for us to see where we’re at. Umm, it’s early in the season but we’re gonna go out there and play against the best of the best.”
Anticipated rematch of last Super Bowl
If there are two teams that will once again be serious title contenders, there’s no doubt they include the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. Interestingly, these same teams faced off in the season’s final game last year, with Nick Sirianni’s Eagles coming out on top.
On February 9th, in a Caesars Superdome packed with fans, the team led on the field by Jalen Hurts dominated Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs from start to finish, sealing a 40-22 victory and securing the franchise’s second Super Bowl ring.
In addition, it was Philadelphia’s own quarterback who was named MVP of that tournament. Will the Kansas City team be able to take revenge for that game in Week 2 of the upcoming season?
A tough start for the Chiefs
The Chiefs want to return to the forefront in this new challenge but know it won’t be an easy task. Andy Reid’s team will kick off the season in the second-ever NFL game held in Brazil. The game will once again take place in Sao Paulo, where the Chiefs will face the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1.
