When Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers receive the Kansas City Chiefs at Raymond James Stadium, that will mark the third time he faces Patrick Mahomes in the NFL and the second time they clash in the playoffs.
The first time these two saw each other in the postseason, they gave their all but it was the New England Patriots that ultimately won the game, earning a hard-fought 37-31 win in overtime, confirming Bill Belichick’s impressive dominance against young quarterbacks.
At that time, Brady didn’t stay on the field to celebrate with his teammates that they were going to the Super Bowl; instead, he went to the Chiefs’ locker room with a single mission, which he later accomplished.
Tom Brady opens up about praising Patrick Mahomes the first time they saw each other in postseason
Recently, Brady talked with the media about why he decided to go meet Mahomes instead of celebrating with his squad, as he wanted to give some props to the Chiefs quarterback after such a wild game.
“What happened was we won in overtime. And the field got crazy. So I didn’t get a chance to go over and just tell him what I thought of him.
“And then I just wanted to make sure before he left that you let him know what I thought about watching him play all year,” said Brady.
Brady also compared his young rival to two of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, which happen to be close friends of TB12, Peyton Manning and Brett Favre.
“How he dealt with all the different things that he had to deal with. I’ve watched Peyton Manning for a long time. I really admired the way Peyton handled all the things that he dealt with. Brett Favre, who’s a friend of mine.
“So I looked up to these guys and guys on my own team, guys that I really looked up to that helped me grow and mature as a young player.”
Brady had nothing but great things to do about Mahomes, predicting that his career is going to be great if he keeps this pace.
“But again, I think he’s got great support outside of football. His family and all those things are gonna serve him well as he keeps going on in his great career,” he said.
The future is bright for Mahomes, who has been compared with Brady. He will have a big chance to beat the widely considered GOAT this Sunday and NFL fans can’t wait to see the big game. Brady knows he’s in front of a huge rival and Mahomes will go at him with everything he has.
