PSG and Bayern Munich delivered a Champions League classic at the Parc des Princes, with the hosts securing a narrow 5-4 victory in the first leg of their 2026 semifinal clash.

The start of the match gave little indication of the high-scoring thriller that was to follow. It wasn’t until the 17th minute that Harry Kane broke the deadlock from the penalty spot to give Bayern Munich the initial lead.

However, PSG responded rapidly through goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Joao Neves, turning the game on its head. The German giants refused to back down, and Michael Olise fired in a spectacular effort to equalize late in the half. Just as a halftime draw seemed certain, Ousmane Dembele restored the lead for the Parisians with a last-minute penalty, sending PSG into the locker room ahead.

In the second half, the hosts looked to run away with the tie. Kvaratskhelia and Dembele both struck in quick succession to extend the lead to an imposing 5-2. While it appeared PSG had all but secured their place in the final, the Germans mounted a late surge. Goals from Dayot Upamecano and Luis Diaz brought the final score to 5-4, keeping the series wide open as the action heads back to Munich.

First half summary

What a first half in Paris. Initially, it looked like it might be a dull, tactical battle with very few scoring opportunities, but that narrative was quickly discarded. The scoring opened in the 17th minute when Harry Kane converted a clinical penalty to give Bayern Munich the early lead. However, the German advantage lasted only seven minutes before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia pulled PSG level with a brilliant individual effort.

The momentum stayed with the hosts, and just eight minutes later, Joao Neves rose highest to meet a corner kick, sending a powerful header past Manuel Neuer to give PSG the lead. Bayern Munich fought back and found an equalizer through Michael Olise, who finished a great attacking move with a potent strike to make it 2-2.

Just when it seemed both teams would head into the locker rooms level, the referee awarded another penalty—this time for PSG following a handball by Alphonso Davies. Ousmane Dembele stepped up and made no mistake, changing the score to 3-2 and ensuring the Parisians head into the break with the advantage in this spectacular semifinal clash.
