Weston McKennie had a rollercoaster year, first signing to play with Juventus in 2020, then winning the Concacaf Nations League with the USMNT, and now a possible move may be in the cards for one of the USMNT best players.
According to a report out of Italy and NBC Sports, McKennie has interest from three clubs in England, after Bayern Munich made it public, they would not pursue the U.S. International. Why is Weston McKennie leaving Juventus after such a successful season? That is a good question, according to reports the 30 million Euro transfer may be too good to pass up. The other, far-fetched, reason is that the U.S. midfielder has not impressed Massimiliano Allegri, something that does not make much sense.
In his only season at the Italian Old Lady, McKennie played in 34 league games and scored 5 goals. He was one of the team’s best options coming off the bench and has been praised for his box-to-box work rate. Here are the three Premier League clubs after Weston McKennie.
Everton
Everton has been very kind to Americans in the past, and McKennie can certainly play a big role for the Toffees. The big question is can Everton afford 30 million Euros on a holding midfielder?
Tottenham
Spurs on the other hand has never been kind to American players, and while Tottenham, who are heavily in debt, could afford the American a move to Spurs would be hard to swallow given how Americans have fared at that club over the years.
Aston Villa
Aston Villa wanted McKennie right before Juventus got him on a loan. One year later and McKennie seems too good of a player to be at Villa, but if Villa promises the American the world, maybe a deal could be done.
It is important to note that according to these reports, McKennie still favors staying at Juventus over any other situation. McKennie proved last season to be a pivotal for Juventus and adapted to Serie A and big club soccer very quickly.
