Dawn Staley talks guarding Caitlin Clark in the national championship game
āThe most dangerous thing about Caitlin Clark is her passing ability,ā Dawn Staley said on Kylie Kelceās podcast. āHer ability to make other people better, other peopleās production along with her production. Thatās how you win. If you could take that away ā and that was our emphasis when we won, when we beat them in the finals last year ā we said, āCaitlin Clarkās gonna get 30.ā It is ā she canāt have 12 assists.ā

The renowned coach continued by stating that Clark was elite at making everybody around her better, so, given her teamās own limitations, the best way to stop Iowa was to prevent Clark from feeding her teammates:
āBecause if sheās got 12 assists, then sheās involving her teammates in a way that doesnāt quite add up. We canāt produce enough points like they can. And itās probably easy points. Theyāre probably layups. Those 12 assists are probably layups. Theyāre not three-point shots, because we could defend that. Itās hard to defend a layup in transition when sheās picking you apart,ā she continued.
