BYU Cougars star freshman AJ Dybantsa is preparing to begin his highly anticipated collegiate career at Provo. Dybantsa, who reclassified from 2026 to 2025, is considered the No. 1 prospect in his class, and the expectations around him are through the roof.&nbsp;



After a Sweet 16 elimination against Alabama last season, the Cougars are set to bounce back and make a deeper run in the NCAA tournament. Dybantsa already set his sights on a major goal, as he’s eager to take his team to the national championship.&nbsp;



During an interview at the 2025 NBA Summer League, the former Utah Prep star expressed his desire to make it to the top of the competition.&nbsp;

“I think the only goal we’ve got in mind is winning a national championship,” Dybantsa told ESPN’s Jorge Sedano. “We got to the Sweet 16 last year as a first-year coach (Kevin Young), so I think we’re only gonna go farther.”

While that is a long shot, the forward is confident that his team can challenge for the title. But first, he’ll have to go through other challenges to make it to the championship game.&nbsp;



AJ Dybantsa and his BYU Cougars will participate in the ESPN Events Invitational in November. The FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup winner and Co. will travel to Orlando, Florida, and will begin their campaign against the Miami Hurricanes.&nbsp;

“When anybody’s upset or anybody disagrees with anything that you believe in, you can stick to the facts,” Staley said. “There are gonna be some emotions about what’s taking place. Once you get over the emotional part of it, and you turn it over to the facts, the facts are the facts, and they will speak to whatever it is that, no matter what you disagree with or agree with, the facts remain the same.”



“It’s important to have those conversations because they aren’t being had,” she said. “I’ve been very blessed by pay equity, not blessed, in that I fought for it. It’s not going to just come to you. You actually have to approach them with what you think you’re worth is. Knowing your worth.”

BYU Cougars incoming star AJ Dybantsa isn’t hiding his desire to compete for the biggest piece of silverware in Division I basketball. The No. 1 prospect in the 2025 class wants to take his new team to new heights after joining them from Utah Prep.&nbsp;



Dybantsa, 18, rejected traditional programs such as Alabama, Kansas and North Carolina to join BYU, and he’s not planning to go to Provo just to be an attraction for fans. Fresh off a gold medal in the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup, the talented forward wants to translate that success into next year’s NCAA tournament.



There’s only one thing he has in mind for his freshman season with the Cougars: winning the national championship.

“I think the only goal we’ve got in mind is winning a national championship. We got to the Sweet 16 last year as a first-year coach (Kevin Young), so I think we only gonna go farther,” he said.



This wasn’t the first time he said he was aiming this high.&nbsp;



“National championship that’s our only goal,” Dybantsa told draft analyst Krysten Peek in an interview. “If we fall short, it’s a disappointing season.”



The Cougars were eliminated by Alabama in the Sweet 16 after beating VCU and Wisconsin. They have renewed expectations and with a player of Dybantsa’s caliber, the season could be one to remember for BYU fans.

“Gosh, I met so many people,” Fudd said. “It was really fun to see players, like, I’m a big fan of Natasha Cloud, I love her. She played for the Mystics, like she’s one of my favorite players growing up. She made me love watching the Mystics, and when she got traded, I don’t see her as much. So being able to see her, it was like fun.”&nbsp;



Cloud has been in the W since 2015 after the Washington Mystics drafted her with the 15th pick in the second round of that year’s draft. She became an WNBA champion in 2019 during her nine-year spell with the capital team.&nbsp; She joined the Phoenix Mercury in 2024 and now plays for the defending champions New York Liberty, trying to help them win back-to-back titles.

St. John’s coach Rick Pitino turned a lot of heads with his recent takes on point guards in the current era of basketball. Pitino, who played 63 games as a guard for Massachusetts and averaged 4.0 points, 1.3 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game, had a strong take on the lack of real point guards at every level of basketball.&nbsp;



In a team meeting, Pitino said former Wake Forest star Chris Paul was the last player to play like a true PG, mentioning that none of the top NBA teams have one of those.&nbsp;



“I said this to the team. Who’s the point guard of the Knicks, the Lakers, the Celtics, the world champion (Thunder)? Point guard is totally done in basketball,” Pitino said. “The days of John Stockton are long gone. There are no more point guards. Chris Paul is probably the last one. You’ve got to play with everybody handling the basketball, five out and just create good movement.”

“You want as many skilled players as possible and everyone talks about positionless basketball and that’s great,” Greenberg said. “Anyone could initiate your offense. But at the end of the game, you want to have the ball in your best player’s hands.”

“Unrivaled is a professional three-on-three league that was started by Napheesa Collier and Brianna Stewart, who are both WNBA players. Super fast paced, it’s super fun,” Fudd said on Thursday. “I think they did such an incredible job this year of launching this league. I think no one really knew what to expect, and they kind of just blew it out of the water. I was so impressed by just how well everything was run. Everything looked organized and like put together. It looked like the players had a great time. Their social teams were killing it.”



Fudd will be eligible to play in the league in 2027, hoping that she becomes a pro and joins the WNBA in 2026.&nbsp;

Dan Hurley’s UConn Huskies are preparing for a 2025-26 NCAA season in which they will no longer be the defending champions after securing back-to-back championships in 2023 and 2024.



After a 77-75 loss to the eventual 2025 champions Florida Gators, the Huskies are set to bounce back and challenge for the title again. They retained important pieces such as Tarris Reed Jr., Solo Ball and Jaylin Stewart.&nbsp;

After a Friday scrimmage, Hurley told reporters that Karaban is overlooked, but that lack of attention has helped his mentality ahead of an important season.



“Alex looks great,” Hurley said. “I think he’s coming into the season under the radar, and I think he’ll respond better mentally to that. What he went through last year has mentally prepared him. There’s a mental toughness you develop when you go through a year like we had as a team.”

During an appearance on CBS Morning, Staley discussed her mother’s influence. Among other topics, she touched on her mother’s parenting style. Staley recalled that the lady had a system to keep the dishes clean and even one in case somebody refused to wash them.

“My mother was probably the cleanest person,” Staley said. “She cleaned houses for other people. So, she wasn’t going to come home with a sink full of dishes. It was five of us living in the house. Each of us had a week to wash the dishes.”



“Whoever’s turn it was to wash the dishes didn’t wash the dishes the night before. And if they didn’t, there was H E double hockey sticks to pay. We didn’t use paper plates back then,” Stayley said. “It was dishes like real China. Break everything. She would throw it on the floor and then leave it for you to clean up. My mother was a disciplinarian. She was one that there it was her way or the highway.”



That discipline helped Staley become who is as a former player and coach, as she’s enjoyed success on the court and on the sideline.&nbsp;

When everything suggested fans were bound to see JuJu Watkins going against Paige Bueckers one last time before the latter went to the WNBA, the USC Trojans women’s basketball star suffered a season-ending injury that could extend her absence well into the 2025-26 NCAA season.&nbsp;



Watkins played 33 games during her sophomore campaign, averaging 23.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.8 blocks per game. She was a do-it-all player once again, leading her squad to a 28-3 record in the regular season.&nbsp;



The eventual national champions eliminated the women of Troy, the UConn Huskies, in the Elite Eight, when Watkins was already sidelined with an ACL tear in her right knee.&nbsp;They are set to clash again in the upcoming season, but JuJu may not be available for that matchup either.&nbsp;

“It’s unfortunate because I feel like the JuJu Watkins-Azzi (Fudd) angle is right there,” Baker said. “JuJu’s hurt, so she won’t be able to participate in it. It’s like ships in the night with those two because we won’t get that moment.”



Just like Paige Bueckers, Watkins will miss significant time with an injury. She will return for the 2026-27 campaign, hoping to pick up right where she left off. The Trojans have a superstar on the roster, but they will have to figure things out without her on the court.&nbsp;

Additionally, Hurley said Reed showed strong communication skills and helped his teammates with screens during their practice session. All these traits made Hurley predict a big season from Reed.&nbsp;



“We’ve spent a lot of time with Tarris,” Hurley said. “Tarris worked his a** off. We’ve bet heavy that he’s going to have a dominant year.”



In 35 games with the Huskies, Reed averaged 9.6 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game, shooting 67% from the field and 64.4% from the free-throw line. He also added 1.6 blocks per game.

Shaquille O’Neal’s daughter, Me’arah O’Neal, is preparing for her sophomore year with the Florida Gators women’s basketball team. While the men’s squad conquered Division I basketball last season, O’Neal and Co. ended the season with a 19-18 (5-11 in the conference) record after the Minnesota Golden Gophers beat them 66-52 in the semifinals of the Women’s Basketball Invitational Tournament.



O’Neal felt a strong connection with the university since her visit in November 2023. The 6-foot-4 guard explained that she felt the Gators would give them the best opportunity to shine.&nbsp;



“I went on the Florida visit, and I had a feeling that’s where I belonged, and that I was going to be most successful if I went to go play at Florida,” Me’Arah said, via ESPN.



Heading into her second season in<a href="http://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> college basketball</a>, O’Neal is working hard to improve her game. She averaged 4.8 points and 3.9 rebounds per outing in 35 games.&nbsp;

O’Neal explained the influence coach Kelly Rae Finley has had on her, which is another factor why she feels playing for the Gators was the right decision for her career. Something that will have college basketball fans paying close attention this season is the freshman campaign of Bryce James with the Arizona Wildcats — one of the most storied programs in NCAA history. For any player, joining the Wildcats is a major step, and James arrives as part of a star-studded recruiting class ranked No. 3 in the 2025 cycle by 247Sports. But his father, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/lebron-james">LeBron James</a>, has also issued a word of caution.



While his older brother Bronny played his freshman season at USC, Bryce will make his college debut this fall for the Wildcats. During his first media availability since arriving in Tucson, Bryce shared the advice his father gave him heading into his first year of college basketball.



“Just working hard and coming in and doing what you do best,” James said Tuesday. “Making sure if you’re not having some good days, always have to stay positive. If you miss a shot, maybe get a turnover or something, don’t hang your head down. Always keep your head up. Push through and stay positive.”



James, a three-star recruit out of Sierra Canyon High School in Chatsworth, California, committed to Arizona earlier this year after receiving offers from Duquesne and Ohio State. He is one of six incoming freshmen for the Wildcats, a group that also features five-star guard Brayden Burries and five-star forward Koa Peat.

It’s difficult to say whether LeBron will share the court with both <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/BRYCE-JAMES">Bryce</a> and Bronny, but it’s not impossible. If LeBron remains healthy and productive for the upcoming NBA season, and follows through on speculation that he could play one or two more years, the scenario could unfold. Should it happen, it would be a landmark moment in sports history.

It remains unclear how much playing time James will earn this <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball">NCAAB</a> season in Arizona’s rotation, particularly with the Wildcats’ crowded backcourt. Star guard Jaden Bradley is projected to play a major role after starting all 37 games last season, while Anthony Dell’Orso, who started 28 games, is also expected to hold a starting spot.



“We treat Bryce just like we treat every other guy,” Arizona head coach Tommy Lloyd said earlier this summer. “He shows up every day with a smile on his face. My hope for him is that everybody gives him space and lets him develop into his own version of Bryce James. He is a great young man, so let’s let that come out and not overwhelm him with stuff he has no control over.”



The Wildcats finished 24-13 overall (14-6 Big 12) during their first season in the conference, with their campaign ending in a 100-93 loss to Duke in the Sweet 16. Arizona enters this year tied for the 16th-best odds to win the 2026 national championship, alongside UCLA, Illinois, Iowa State and Gonzaga, according to FanDuel.

With Paige Bueckers defending the Dallas Wings in the WNBA, the UConn Huskies women’s basketball team will now pivot to Azzi Fudd and Sarah Strong to lead the way. They are entering this season as the defending champions, but with Bueckers out of the picture, they’ll need renovated leadership to go back-to-back.&nbsp;



Fudd, who enters her final season, was the natural option to take the torch from Bueckers. Strong, a couple of years younger, is expected to take over once the guard goes to the pros. But first, they will have to lead the team to challenge for another title, and Geno Auriemma is excited about this tandem.&nbsp;



After beating the South Carolina Gamecocks in the 2025 national championship game, the Huskies will face new challenges. Auriemma knows he has two big stars who won’t hesitate to take them on and sent a message to opponents ahead of the new season.&nbsp;

“I gotta tell ya, I’ve never seen Azzi this aggressive, this engaged in wanting to do a lot,” Auriemma said about Fudd, before addressing Strong. “That’s probably stood out more than anything. Remember the way Sarah was in that last game, she’s way better. So those two things really stood out these last two weeks.”



The Huskies are the most successful team in women’s <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a>, and they don’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.

The North Carolina Tar Heels prepare for the 2025-26 NCAA season in which they will try to improve the 23-14 (13-7 in the conference) record they posted last year. “I think that’s good enough to say, okay, not great, but it’s good enough. It’s not great,” Childress said on Friday. “Like all of this is put ‘They’re like everyone else. We had to revamp it.’ They’re like Virginia.”



Childress has solid expectations for North Carolina, but they don’t seem to be a legitimate title candidate at this point. If they continue in this trajectory, the picture could look different next year.

The Kentucky Wildcats had a solid 2024-25 season, where they advanced to the Sweet 16 in the 2025 NCAA tournament. They made a positive impression despite losing to the Tennessee Volunteers to end their national championship quest.&nbsp;



Mark Pope will take on his second season with the Wildcats with high expectations after posting a 24-12 (10-8 in the conference) record in 2024. Among their additions, Kentucky fans will have Arizona State transfer center Jayden Quaintance.&nbsp;



He initially committed to Kentucky during John Calipari’s tenure before heading to ASU, where he played his freshman season and averaged 9.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 2.6 blocks and 1.1 steals per game. Quaintance is already drawing a lot of attention, with people predicting a solid sophomore season for the Cleveland native.&nbsp;

“Quaintance is going into his second season in college hoops, and this season at Kentucky, he is going to be special. It would not come as any kind of surprise for Quaintance to average a double-double while leading college basketball in blocks. The 6’10 center is truly this good. If Quaintance can continue to improve his jump shot and become a threat from deep, he will be one of the best players in all of college basketball. There is a reason why Quaintance is projected to be a top ten pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, and he will show why this season in Lexington,” he wrote.



The Wildcats could be a threat to the top teams in DI next season, and Quaintance could lead them to the top.&nbsp;
