Travis Hunter has recently showcased a versatility rarely seen in this sport. As he eagerly awaits the upcoming NFL Draft, his former coach with the Colorado Buffaloes last season, Deion Sanders, sent a clear message about the extraordinary abilities of his former player.
There has been much talk recently about what position the most recent Heisman Trophy winner should play once he reaches the NFL. When asked about this situation, Coach Prime firmly stated that it wouldn’t be a good idea to limit him to just one position on the field.
“He doesn’t know any other way,” Sanders said on NFL Network. “What else would he do, just sit there by the water cooler while the offense is getting their butts kicked, and you’ve got the best receiver probably on your team over there with the coach waiting for his turn to go back on the field? That doesn’t make sense to me. Just because a person hasn’t done this in the majority of the NFL, don’t say what another man can’t do.”
One of Hunter’s greatest virtues this past season in College Football was his versatility and strong performance both as a wide receiver and cornerback. Sanders made the most of these talents, and as a result, his player ended up being one of the best of the season.

“Travis Hunter loves the game. He’s not in like with it, he’s in love with the game. He don’t really care about the accolades he possesses, this guy loves to play the game of football,” Sanders also added.

Hunter, a two-way player in the NFL
It’s not often that you see a player who excels both offensively and defensively, and even more rare to see one do it at such a high level. Deion Sanders had the privilege of coaching Travis Hunter in some capacity, and he made a strong statement about him.
When asked by the press whether he believes the most recent Heisman Trophy winner could be considered one of the best two-way players the sport has ever seen, Coach Prime raised the stakes even further.
“The best, not one of the best,” Buffaloes head coach firmly stated. “The best that ever did it.”
Where does Hunter prefer to play?
Projected to be one of the top picks in the upcoming NFL Draft, Travis Hunter is one of the most versatile players available for teams to choose from. It’s well known that he excels as both a wide receiver and cornerback, performing at a high level in both positions.
So, does Hunter finally have a preference for one of the two positions to play, in case the team that drafts him requires him to choose just one?
During his meetings with the press at the Combine, Hunter was firm in his response on this topic: “They say, ‘Nobody has ever done it the way I do it.’ I tell them, ‘I’m just different,’” the Heisman Trophy winner said, adding that he wants to play every snap at both CB and WR.
