The 2020 NBA draft is getting closer and every day we see more stories about the potential candidates to become the first overall pick on draft night. There is no general consensus about what is going to happen next month or who is going to be the 2020 No. 1 pick in the NBA draft, especially knowing that not all teams in the lottery might use their selection.
The Minnesota Timberwolves were reportedly interested in trading their pick to land an established star, the Golden State Warriors were rumored to be thinking the same and more. One of the players who could be the first or second overall pick in the upcoming draft is LaMelo Ball, the youngest brother of the Ball house.
Melo didn’t play in college, he dropped out of high school and went to Europe and Australia to play with the pros in order to improve and get ready for the draft. Now the moment has arrived and Melo appears to have a good shot to be taken within the first five selections of the night, but nobody is sold about his chances to be great in the association.
LaMelo is drawing polarizing takes around the NBA
NBA agents have expressed their opinions on Melo as well as revealing the things that some things might or might not think about him and his potential. The Athletic conducted a poll with 20 NBA agents to discuss a series of topics, including the upcoming NBA draft. One agent believes his participation in international basketball actually helped his case.
“With everything considered, the route he took, I just think he’s a guy who people are all over the place on. He fits the bill as much as anybody ever,” an agent said.
However, not everybody is sold on the idea that the 19-year-old can be good in the league. Another agent said that he’s an experiment and he could be the best or the worst thing to happen to an NBA franchise.
In the same poll, one agent mentioned, “That could go really good or really bad,” while another one said, “I think he has such a high ceiling but the difference from his top to bottom is the biggest of anyone in the draft.”
Melo is expected to become better than his older brother Lonzo, who struggled last season with the New Orleans Pelicans. The youngest Ball is set to take the world by storm. It remains to be seen if NBA teams are as high on him as his father would wish.
