Amid a quarterback injury, Pete Carroll's Raiders might look for a Pro Bowler to sign for them

The Las Vegas Raiders are having quarterback issues. Pete Carroll won’t roll the dice without having a solid quarterback room, hence he is looking for a Pro Bowler to join the roster.

Geno Smith is the QB1 of the team and that is likely not to change. However, backup Aidan O’Connell will miss between 6-8 weeks with a fractured wrist. Hence, NBC Sports is reporting that former Pro Bowler, Ryan Tannehill, might be one of the names that Las Vegas would like to sign.

Tannehill hasn’t played since 2023 after playing only 10 games before getting injured. Now a free agent, Tannehill is 37 years old but Carroll would like having a veteran presence as Geno Smith’s backup.

Tannehill has had an up-and-down career

Drafted in 2012 by the Miami Dolphins, Tannehill never reached the heights expected of him. This prompted the team to trade him away to the Tennessee Titans in 2019. Tennessee revived Tannehill’s career and he guided the team to an AFC Championship game. That year, he made the Pro Bowl.

He became the Titans‘ franchise quarterback and played for them until 2023. He then suffered a right ankle injury at a London game. He was then substituted by Will Levis who started for two years. Now, the Titans are in Cam Ward‘s hands, while Tannehill hasn’t played since then.

Is Tannehill the best idea?

While many can say bringing him in is a bad idea, you have to consider the terms. First and foremost, he wouldn’t be a starter, but he is a proven commodity in the NFL. Secondly, the team wouldn’t have to go through a trade or pay big money.

Geno Smith is a very good quarterback and Tannehill has somewhat of a similar style to him. Veteran, knows how to exploit play-action, has good accuracy and can move a little. All in all, it wouldn’t be as bad if Tannehill’s fit to play.
