The Kansas City Chiefs will do everything they can to keep Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes in a position to succeed in the 2025 NFL season. Therefore, the team didn’t hesitate to upgrade the offense with two players who worked with Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers in the last few years.
On Monday, NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that the Chiefs are improving their o-line by signing offensive tackle Jaylon Moore, who hit free agency as his four-year deal with the Niners expired.
“A new blindside protector for Patrick Mahomes: Former 49ers’ offensive tackle Jaylon Moore reached an agreement today on a two-year, $30 million deal, including $21.24 million fully guaranteed at signing with the Chiefs, per sources. The deal was negotiated by @perzley and Brian Mackler of @sportstarsnyc,” Schefter wrote on social media.
Shortly after this report, Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports broke the news that the Chiefs are also snatching a running back from the 49ers, signing Elijah Mitchell to a deal worth up to $3.5 million.

Moore, 27, spent four years in San Francisco after being selected in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Niners. In the Bay area, he got to protect the likes of Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance before Purdy won the starting quarterback job.

Now, the Western Michigan product will be in charge of improving an area of the field that brought constant problems to Mahomes and Reid throughout the 2024 NFL season, especially in Super Bowl LIX.
Rookie Kinsgley Suamatia entered the 2024 season as the starting left tackle, a job he lost after only two weeks due to underwhelming performances. Wanya Morris eventually got demoted to the bench as well, and D.J. Humphries failed to provide a solution as he got injured in his first game with the Chiefs.
Reid decided to move Joe Thuney from left guard to left tackle for the remainder of the season, a decision that proved costly in Super Bowl LIX. Thuney is now heading to the Chicago Bears, and the Chiefs hope Moore provides the protection Mahomes needs on his blindside.

With Mitchell, Kansas City adds another weapon for Mahomes
Mitchell, who was drafted in the same class as Moore but a round later, is adding depth to an already strong Chiefs’ backfield led by Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt. But with Samaje Perine’s one-year deal running out, Reid and Mahomes could use another running back this offseason.
