Andy Reid is down a familiar weapon for the 2025 NFL season, with the Kansas City Chiefs trading wide receiver Skyy Moore to Brock Purdy’s San Francisco 49ers on Wednesday. Shortly before the move, the head coach stood up for the wideout.
Reid’s last comments about Moore came shortly after the Chiefs‘ 33-16 preseason loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Even though the wide receiver dropped two passes, the coach showed nothing but support for the player.
“Yeah, listen, he had a couple of drops. That’s not like him; he’s better than that,” said Reid, as quoted Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports. “So he had three kinds of bobbles and drops and special teams, and with throws. He came back with a big play. So I’m proud of him for that. It wasn’t his best night up to that point.”
Even though Moore failed to record a catch in two targets, he did come up with a highlight reel moment by returning a punt for an 88-yard touchdown. Reid got Moore’s back after the game, though he couldn’t change the wideout’s fate in Kansas City.

A new chapter for Moore in the Bay area
Moore, who turns 25 in September, will be wearing a different uniform for the first time since joining the NFL. The Chiefs selected him as a second-round pick (No. 54 overall) out of Western Michigan and kept him around for three seasons.

He was part of two of Reid’s three Super Bowl wins in Kansas City, making three starts as a rookie before starting in eight games in his second year. Overall, he made 11 starts in 36 games with the Chiefs, recording 43 catches for 494 yards and a touchdown during his time at Arrowhead.
But when one door closes, another one opens. With Demarcus Robinson suspended for three games after violating the league’s substance abuse policy, the 49ers felt like providing Purdy with another weapon. A player with Moore’s experience could come in handy as San Francisco aims to bounce back from a disappointing campaign.
