Jameis Winston has a lot to prove in the 2022 NFL season. Even though they were expected to explore other options, the Saints brought backthe 2015 first overall pick hoping he can finally bring the best out of him.
Winston had a promising start to his tenure in New Orleans, which began with a commanding 38-3 victory over the Green Bay Packers in Week 1 of the 2021 season. That day, Winston threw for five touchdowns and 148 yards.
While he couldn’t deliver those performances consistently, the truth is that the Saints were 5-2 until a torn ACL in his left knee ruled him out for the remainder of the season in Week 7 against the Bucs. It’s been a long process since then, but Winston is now ready to make his returnand have another chance with the Who Dat nation.
Jameis Winston feeling confident ahead of NFL return with Saints
“Drops are at full speed right now,” Winston said, via John DeShazier of the Saints’ official website. “Still progressing into running. But I’m more just taking advantage of every opportunity I can get. I’m happy I can take full-speed reps with passing, not rolling out and stuff yet. (But) everything is going great.
“I felt in three months that I was back to this point,” Winston added. “But I’m always embracing the process, always trying to find new ways. It’s actually a blessing in disguise, being able to strengthen other muscles – my hip flexors, my glutes, my quads and hamstrings. Just kind of revamping my whole body and just making sure everything is tight-knit and ready to go.”
At 28, Winston knows this is a crucial opportunity in his career to prove he can be a dependable franchise quarterback. The NFL has seen glimpses of his talent, but he struggled to shine consistently. Will 2022 be his year?
