The weak start to the campaign from the Kansas City Chiefs might be one of the biggest surprises of the 2021 NFL regular season so far. Patrick Mahomes and company are currently 3-4, sitting third in the AFC West.

TheSuper Bowl LIV MVP has already addressed the team’s struggles when they lost to the Buffalo Bills on a Monday Night Football showdown two weeks ago but it seems like his team still has plenty of work to do.

On Sunday, the Chiefs were destroyed by the Tennessee Titans 27-3 in what hasbeen Mahomes’ worst game, statistically speaking. Besides getting sacked four times, failing to throw for a touchdown, and getting one interception, he never seemed comfortable to get things going offensively. And that’s why he made a vow to his teammates.

Heading into Week 8, it’s quite clear the Chiefs have to change things and start picking up wins consistently, avoiding setbacks like the one they suffered in Tennessee. If not, they’llunlikelymake another trip to the Super Bowl.

Mahomes hasn’t been the exception to the team’s struggles, as he got nine interceptions in 2021, three more than the entire 2020 campaign. And, instead of pointing the finger on anyone else, the Texas Tech product told reporterson Thursday that he took responsibility for Sunday’s loss.

“You can just watch the tape and know that I need to play better in order to have success,” Mahomes said. “There were plays where guys were open. There were plays where we had matchups down the field that I didn’t hit that I usually would give those guys opportunities to make plays.

“I’ve said something to them (his teammates), saying that I’ve got to be better. At the same time, they have that mindset that they’re going to try to build me up. It’s a thing where you’re not going to play your best game every single game, and that’s when you have to rely on your other guys to kind of step up and make plays for you.”

Although his attitude should be greatly appreciated, it’s not only up to him to improve in order toget results. Being a team game, it’s on everyone in the Chiefs to produce the best version of themselves to turn things around.
