Now, he is set for an NFL return.



After his Chiefs span under <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/andy-reid" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Reid</a>, he went to Rutgers, then Texas and Alabama, all as CB coach, until in 2022, he got the CB coach/co-DC role of Oklahoma. Valai is considered a student of the game.

Valai’s Oklahoma pass defenses ranked among the very top in interceptions. His unit had 46 picks over the last three seasons and ranked first in INTs per game in 2023. However, his experience goes beyond just a position coach, he already helped design coverages and disguise packages.

Valai focuses on leverage, and pattern-matching against bunch/stack looks. He is considered an aggressive, turnover-looking coach, yet cautious enough to not have blown coverages on a consistent basis. Valai is also a very good developer. In fact, at <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/oklahoma-sooners" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Oklahoma</a> he consistently used underclassmen and overachieved.

<h2>The Bills already had a great secondary</h2>



The Bills ranked first in passing defense in 2025. They allowed a mere 156.9 passing yards per game. What Valai will do is help them on the turnovers side. The Bills only had 13 interceptions, which ranked 11th in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NFL</a>. Still, this unit was already pretty good in 2025.



Now, the corners are likely to get more aggressive. Still, the Bills allowed the seventh-lowest passer rating to opposing quarterbacks. This is a good hire, but it wasn’t a priority, it’s just the cherry on top of an excellent unit.

As Egorugwu coaches the inside linebackers, he doesn’t work directly with Allen or the Bills’ offense. If anything, his mentees line up against the star quarterback and the offense in practice.

Being an OC in the NFL is no easy job, although having Sean Payton as your mentor will surely help out. Athletically, Keon Coleman might be up there with the best of the best in the NFL. However, athleticism will only get you so far, and that’s what has hampered Coleman. The wideout only had 404 yards for four touchdowns this season, a lower total than in his rookie year. Coleman also had three drops this season.

At 6-foot-4, 215 lbs, and able to run a 4.6-second 40-yard dash, Coleman should be a massive threat, especially in the red zone. Los Angeles recorded the fifth-most pass attempts of any team during the 2025 NFL regular season. Buffalo finished 25th in that same category. Even with teams expecting the Rams to throw the pigskin, Stafford and company led the league in passing yards (4,557) and touchdowns (46), while being tied for the second-least interceptions (8).



<h2>Bills’ offensive numbers</h2>



Meanwhile, Buffalo finished 25th in pass attempts. That disparity isn’t surprising, considering the Bills led the league in rushing yards per game, averaging 159.6 per outing. With a backfield featuring Allen and James Cook, the Bills’ numbers make a lot of sense.



Still, with an arm like Josh Allen’s commanding the offense, Buffalo could be inclined to call more plays that have the quarterback drop back to pass. If Scheelhaase indeed becomes the new head coach in Western New York, expect a different Bills attack in 2026.
