Skip Bayless had spent days calling it an âinjusticeâ that no team had selected Shedeur Sanders, despite the quarterback being considered one of the top prospects for the 2025 Draft. But when Sanders was finally picked, it quickly became clear Bayless wasnât happy about the landing spot: the Cleveland Browns.
âShedeur shouldâve gone first to Tennessee. He went 144th, to arguably the NFLâs worst franchise, in a division featuring the 2 best quarterbacks in the NFL, in pretty lousy weather ⊠after they already took Dillon Gabriel. So is Shedeur now just a valuable trading piece?â Bayless wrote on X following Sandersâ selection by the Browns.
Baylessâ frustration over Shedeur Sandersâ future was obvious, especially as he made it clear he didnât want Deion Sandersâ son playing in Cleveland. âNoooooo. I did not want Shedeur to go to Cleveland. But maybe he can turn around even that sorry franchise,â he added.
Bayless had hoped Sanders would land with the Cowboys
Bayless revealed that Sanders was just five picks away from potentially joining the Dallas Cowboys. âShedeur was just five picks from potentially going to Dallas,â Bayless noted.

Head coach Deion Sanders of the Colorado Buffaloes celebrates with quarterback Shedeur Sanders #2 after a fourth quarter touchdown against the Colorado State Rams at Folsom Field on September 16, 2023 in Boulder, Colorado.
He also had been publicly urging Jerry Jones to draft the young quarterback, even framing it as a golden opportunity: âJerry: take Shedeur at 149. You will love the âdistractionââthe attention, the publicity explosion that nobody else wants. Last night you raved about Shedeurâs character. Take him now. Steal of the century. He just might win you a Super Bowl.â

The drama is over
From the moment Shedeur Sanders went undrafted on Day 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft, drama explodedânot just on television, but across all platformsâover the quarterbackâs future. Sanders had posted some impressive numbers at Colorado, but he never won a conference title or reached the College Football Playoff. Now, it seems the saga has finally come to an end, as he is officially part of a professional team.
