The Winnipeg Jets are facing a pivotal moment for the future of the team. After losing their star Nikolaj Ehlers in free agency, the roster needs to be strengthened for one more run to win the Stanley Cup.
Last season, the signs were very promising. The Jets were the best team in the Western Conference, had a historic start in their first 15 games, and managed to win a playoff series against the Blues. However, the outcome felt bittersweet after losing to the Dallas Stars.
Now, the challenge seems very clear. The first step is to take back control of the West from Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers, and then aim for something bigger: putting an end to the potential dynasty of Brad Marchand and the Florida Panthers.
Who did the Winnipeg Jets sign in free agency?
The Winnipeg Jets signed Gustav Nyquist to a one-year, $3.25 million contract. The veteran played last season with the Predators and the Minnesota Wild, recording 11 goals and 17 assists.
Nyquist has also played for other teams such as the Detroit Red Wings, San Jose Sharks, and Columbus Blue Jackets. In total, he has appeared in 863 regular-season games, recording 209 goals and 322 assists.
