Tokyo 2020 finally brought the ultimate sports competition after a long wait that was even longer due to the pandemic outbreak. The Olympic Games always seeathletes making a name for themselves and that was the case for Eliud Kipchoge, a successful long-distance runner who became even more famous in the Games.

The world record holder in the marathon will set foot in Japan hoping to claim a second Olympic gold medal in a row after being crowned at the Río 2016 Olympics. When the marathon final kicks off on Friday, all eyes will be on Kipchoge.

Born on November 5, 1984, Eliud Kipchoge is 36 years old. Widely regarded as the greatest marathoner of the modern era, he has quickly found success running at the high level. His first steps werein the 5000 m distance, though.

He first won the junior world championship title setting a world junior record, then became the senior world champion at 18 years of age. Kipchoge then went on to claim his first Olympic medal, a bronze in Athens 2004, before winning silver in Beijing 2008.

At 5 ft 6 in (167 cm tall), Eliud Kipchoge first built his running career at the 5000m before switching to marathon in 2012, and he didn’t take long to make an impact. In his debut at the 2013 Hamburg Marathon, Kipchoge won the race in record time.

Kipchoge kept on adding accolades to his name before winning probably his best award so far by claiming gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics and bringing home a historic triumph. Now he will try to repeat history in Japan.
