The <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/new-york-mets">New York Mets</a> got a boost on Saturday as catcher Francisco Alvarez returned to the lineup after missing time with back stiffness. The 22-year-old is set to contribute to a revamped roster that includes newcomers Luis Robert Jr. and Bo Bichette.



Mets manager Carlos Mendoza confirmed Alvarez’s readiness. “Better. Saw him earlier this morning, was getting treatment. Definitely feeling better, moving around fine. The plan is for him to go through his workout, he’s going to swing the bat. Everything goes well, he’s back in the lineup tomorrow (today),” Mendoza said, via SNY. Alvarez had exited Thursday’s spring game due to back stiffness but is now cleared to play.



Alvarez has been productive this spring, hitting .364 with a home run. Last season, he posted 11 home runs and 32 RBIs, and the Mets will lean on him for both offensive consistency and defensive leadership.

The majority of the roster is American. For the 2026 season, according to ESPN’s listed roster, there are 25 American players set to suit up for the Blue Jays. Only one player is from Canada, or at least was born there, Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

“I thought he was fine,” Mendoza said of Bichette’s performance at third base. Since 2019, Bichette has primarily played shortstop, one of the game’s most demanding defensive positions. He has also logged time as a designated hitter, further underscoring his versatility. Last season, he posted a .311 batting average and earned MVP consideration.

“Baty in RF is… let’s just call it ‘silly.’ If it’s not Benge, it’s pretty clearly Tauchman/Melendez. Outside of that from Anthony, both are solid. Only real improvement would be moving Soto to leadoff and Lindor down to 3, but we know the Mets aren’t doing that to start,” Eric Froehlich said while reacting to the BNNY lineup projections.
