The <strong>Darvin Ham </strong>experiment didn’t last long, and the<strong> winningest franchise in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA</a> history</strong> wants to get back to the mountaintop.</p>



<p>It only makes sense that they want to make the most of<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/lebron-james" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> <strong>LeBron James</strong></a><strong> and Anthony Davis </strong>while they’re still there, but there aren’t that many proven coaches available right now.</p>



<p>That’s why the Lakers aren’t likely to go with a high-profile name. If anything, <strong>Shams Charania of The Athletic</strong> reports that former player <strong>JJ Redick</strong> is currently leading the race to be their next coach.</p>



<h2>JJ Redick Is The Frontrunner For The Lakers’ Coaching Job</h2>



<p><em>“I’m told that last week the Lakers met with JJ Redick for an extended period of time,”</em> Shams said.<em><strong> “He was the first person to do a face-to-face meeting and my sense is that he’s the frontrunner for this job.”</strong></em></p>

<p>This isn’t far from a surprise, as LeBron and Redick<strong> have a close relationship</strong>, and they even started a podcast together recently. Still, Charania reported earlier in the week that James hasn’t been involved in the coaching search: </p>



<p><strong><em>“I’m told LeBron James is not involved in the Lakers’ head coaching search,” </em></strong>Charania said. <em>“I’ve reported on it last week. J.J. Redick, James Borrego, Sam Cassell are the lead initial targets<strong>. But LeBron James has made it clear. This is the organization’s decision.”</strong></em></p>



<p>That’s particularly hard to believe. James has had a say in almost every decision since he signed with the Lakers, and they <strong>wouldn’t hire someone without his blessing</strong>, especially with him being able to become a free agent this summer.</p>



<p>Redick is a knowledgeable and respected former player, but the fact that he comes with zero coaching experience <strong>should raise some eyebrows among the fan base.</strong></p>

<p>However, the Bulls have never been very active in trades, and especially not with the Lakers. According to<strong> <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA</a> insider Eric Pincus,</strong> that’s not particularly a coincidence.</p>



<p>In his latest talk with <strong>Jovan Buha</strong>, the insider claimed that the Chicago Bulls have purposely refused to engage in trade talks with the Lakers <strong>because of<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/lebron-james" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> LeBron James</a>.</strong></p>



<h2>The Bulls Don’t Want To Help LeBron’s Legacy</h2>



<p><strong><em>“In this industry you, you have to make the best decision for you as a team but people are petty and make stupid decisions all the time that like aren’t what’s best for you,”</em></strong> Pincus said.<em> “Fans clamor for Alex Caruso right like for years. Like they should have gotten Drummond and Caruso. I’m like go look at like the transaction logs of Lakers-Chicago like they don’t make trades together. Last one was like during when the Lakers were rebuilding and were terrible.”</em></p>

<p>Mitchell pulled the brakes on talks about a contract extension, and he’s never committed to staying in Ohio. There have been multiple <strong>rumors about the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/new-york-knicks" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">New York Knicks</a> trying to get him</strong>, dating back to the past couple of years.</p>



<p>Now, after watching his team struggle in the playoffs again, Mitchell has a big decision ahead of him. And while he’s never openly requested a trade in his career, he may have made up his mind already, according to <strong>ESPN insider Brian Windhorst. </strong></p>



<h2>The Cavs Have A Decision To Make </h2>



<p><em>“I think the most interesting thing that could happen here is that Donovan, again, Donovan never indicated that he ever wanted to be traded from Utah,<strong> but the Jazz knew he was probably unlikely to stay. I don’t think that Donovan will ever say, I don’t want to be in Cleveland,</strong>“</em> Windhorst said on Get Up.</p>

<p>That’s why, as much as <strong>JJ Redick</strong> could fit that criteria because of his relationship with James, <strong>Miami Heat legend Udonis Haslem</strong> believes that might not be the wisest decision.</p>



<h2>Udonis Haslem Says JJ Redick Shouldn’t Coach The Lakers</h2>



<p>Per Haslem, Redick could have to deal with a <strong>‘cynical locker room,’</strong> as some of the players might feel like he’s just LeBron’s puppet and will always question his authority:</p>

<p>Haslem later talked about how the Lakers could go after <strong>Chris Quinn</strong>, who’s one of <strong>Erik Spoelstra’s</strong> top assistants, as a guy who LeBron would listen and respect. Still, he didn’t say he was an actual candidate:</p>

<p>Needless to say, that’s not much of a recipe for success. More often than not, the latest <strong>NBA champions</strong> have featured coaches who’ve built their projects for years, such as <strong>Steve Kerr, Erik Spoelstra, Mike Malone, or Mike Budenholzer.</strong></p>



<p>That’s what the Lakers want to do. According to<strong> Jovan Buha of The Athletic</strong>, they don’t want someone to focus only on<strong> the end of the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/lebron-james" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">LeBron James </a>era,</strong> but also to lead them into the future.</p>



<h2>The Lakers Want A Long-Term Coach</h2>

<p>With that in mind, reports state that they’re considering <strong>hiring former <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA</a> player JJ Redick</strong>, who recently started a podcast with James, to be Darvin Ham’s replacement.</p>



<h2>JJ Redick Talks About His Desire To Be A Coach</h2>



<p>Redick was reportedly<strong> a candidate for the Toronto Raptors’ coaching position</strong> last offseason. Instead, he continued his career as a podcaster and an analyst for ESPN. However, he recently admitted that he <strong>missed the competition and everything that comes with an NBA environment:</strong></p>

<p>Redick was never a star, but he was <strong>a respected veteran who spent 15 years in the pros.</strong> And while he’s been quite successful in his most recent endeavors, he just can’t help missing the league: </p>



<p><em>“Those are all these little moments of actual game-play, it’s the other moments that I feel like we all miss as ex-athletes right,”</em> Redick said. <em><strong>“The part about coaching in general, it’s a very general statement, is like the things that I miss and the things that I love doing. <p>Nonetheless,<strong> ESPN insider Brian Windhorst</strong> isn’t so sure about that. Talking on Get Up, he argued that James is more than likely to be back with the Purple &amp; Gold next season.</p>

<p><em>“I do believe LeBron is going to opt out of his contract next month, and I do believe he’s got several reasons why he wants to do that and leaving optionality for playing with Bronny is on the list, but I don’t think it’s at the top. <strong>I do think he’s going to be back with the Lakers,”</strong></em> Windhorst said.</p>

<p>With that in mind,<strong> the Lakers are more than likely to make a run at Bronny,</strong> says Windhorst. Still, he’s not at the top of their priority list, and with their desire to trade their first-round pick, they might have to acquire another pick to get him:</p>



<p><em>“<strong>And I also will say this, I think if the Lakers have an opportunity to draft Bronny James, they will do so. </strong>Whether that’s with the 55th pick or if they make another deal around the draft where they pick up another pick, I think they will try. I do not think it’s going to be their top priority,”</em> added Windhorst.</p>

<p>Then again, just like what happens with multiple players, he just<strong> couldn’t break out in Southern California</strong>. His team wasn’t very good, he wasn’t well-coached, and he may not have been mentally strong enough at that point in his career.</p>



<p>Ingram took a huge leap when he was sent to the<strong> <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/new-orleans-pelicans" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">New Orleans Pelicans</a>.</strong> He blossomed int<strong>o an efficient three-level scorer</strong> and a good defender, finally living up to his potential.</p>
