Jordan Romano had another rough outing for the Philadelphia Phillies during Game 2 of their home series against the Miami Marlins, once again putting the game in jeopardy after giving up several runs. But what surprised many was Romano himself admitting that this was the worst outing of his entire career.
The numbers donāt lieāthis game against the Marlins was statistically the worst of Romanoās MLB career. āProbably the worst outing of my careerā he said, but It wasnāt the first time heās posted a 15+ ERA in a single game with the Philliesāhe also gave up 3 runs in a rough outing against the Dodgers.
However, Game 2 against the Marlins stands out as his worst: it was the first time Romano allowed 6 runs, 6 hits, and 2 home runs in a single appearance. It was a disasterāone that hadnāt happened to him before. Since 2019, he had never allowed more than 3 runs in a game.
Romanoās Struggles in Philadelphia
Interestingly, Romanoās worst outings have all come during his short time with the Phillies. Despite feeling physically strong on the moundāsaying to On Pattison, āThatās the best my arm has felt in a long timeāāhe admitted that Marlins hitters seemed to be locked in: āThey were seeing it really well today.ā

Data by Baseball-Reference
The Marlins meltdown marked just the third time in his career that heās allowed two home runs in a single outing. The last time it happened was back in 2022 when he gave up two in games against the Red Sox and Guardians while still with the Blue Jays. Even more concerning: this is the first time in his seven-year MLB career that his ERA has climbed into double digits, currently sitting above 10.

Phillies Find a Way to Win Despite Romanoās Woes
Despite his struggles, Romano has managed to hold an 8-1 recordāthanks in large part to the efforts of other relievers, the starting rotation, and a strong defense. His record doesnāt look bad on paper, but itās clear he needs to make some adjustments to fit into a Phillies bullpen that hasnāt been nearly as strong as the rotation.
