The Brooklyn Nets are a disaster right now. Theyâve won just three of their past 20 games, Ben Simmons still has no timetable to play, Kyrie Irving continues to be a part-time player, and Steve Nash canât figure out how to stop the bleeding.
The Nets were supposed to come out of the East with little-to-no trouble. But as you may know by now, that rarely happens in the NBA. Injuries, the vaccination fiasco, and multiple off-court issues have prevented them from being at full strength.
But more than that, it seems like the Nets have lacked the leadership to get by with Kevin Durant sidelined with an injury. Thatâs why Stephen A. Smith believes the organization has âleft him hangingâ.
Stephen A. Smith Calls Out The Brooklyn Nets, Says Theyâve Failed Kevin Durant
âWhat does Golden State have? Culture. They do have leaders,â Smith started. âThey have culture, they have coaching, they have leadership. What Iâm saying is, when you depart from that what youâre saying is âI ainât worried about that cause I got that covered.â Well if you got that covered, why is Kyrie doing what he wants to do, why is Ben Simmons running from challenges, and why are you leaving Kevin Durant hanging?â
âIâm telling you right now, what we celebrated about James Harden last year was in that 7th game, this dude was on the court on one leg because Kyrie was hurt and they knew KD needed something,â Smith added.âThe fact that KD has surrounded himself with dudes that seem to prioritize everything but KD. They are not supporting him and he is letting them get away with it.â
âIâm gonna have to apologize to Daryl Morey cause I thought the man got hosed. Daryl Morey evidently knew about Ben Simmons, they knew what they were getting Andre Drummond caus he canât defend the pick and roll to save his life. He knew about Ben Simmons evidently, he knew about Andre Drummond, and he probably knew about Kyrie. I might have to apologize if it keeps going this way,â Smith concluded.
If we were talking about any other team, we would rush to say that they donât stand a chance. But the Nets are so talented that they could still end up on top once itâs all said and done. However, they just donât seem mentally strongenough to pull it off right now.
