The New York Jets are trying to implant a new culture on the team. Aaron Rodgers is gone, so is the old front office. The new coaching staff led by Aaron Glenn is taking notes of who will stay on the roster. One of the Jets players who was once poised for success might need a new team in the NFL if things donāt align for him.
After being drafted in the third round by the Jets last season, hopes were that wide receiver Malachi Corley could help bolster the attack. However, Rich Cimini of ESPN, said Corley might be in real jeopardy due to a couple of factors heās faced this offseason.
First, heās missed plenty of the offseason program due to an undisclosed injury. Second, the front office that drafted him is gone, from general manager to head coach. By being sidelined, Corley hasnāt been able to prove himself to the new regime.
Corley has no leverage whatsoever
If his rookie season was something to be in awe by, Corleyās scenario would be way better. However, he only caught 3 passes on 6 targets for a total of 16 yards. He was basically inexistent for Rodgers and the guys who drafted him, imagine for the new guys in charge.

It seems like the new staff will give him a chance, though. āHeās going to have to find a way to catch himself up,ā offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand said to Cimini.

As for Glenn, his words were a bit more encouraging. Just donāt expect him to grant Corley a shot without proving his worth. The head coach said, āThereās a plan for him, and weāre going to make sure that we try to utilize him to what he can do best, and weāve seen that in college⦠Hopefully, he gets well soon, and we get a chance to utilize his skill set.ā
Corley needs to really step up
Only 16 yards in your rookie season is bad enough. Having a fumble on the goal line costing your team a turnover is close to a death sentence on the roster. If you add that āavailability is the best ability,ā that might be the nail in the coffin for Corley.
The thing is, if he gets cut, his NFL career will turn into an uphill battle. Therefore, Corley must show signs of potential once heās back. If not, he might become a practice squad guy as soon as his second year starts.
